One of my favorite trees to shoot. It has its own history and personality...unfortunately it was hit by lightening a couple of years and destroyed some large limbs on the left side... Shot with my Nikon 200-500mm F5.6 (lens not yet on list to choose from)

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I like this shot and am glad to see I gave it a 6 in voting. Not so much due to the subject matter, more due to the centrally composed image. Nice exposure and light. Still, great to read the story of this tree, and I have to disagree a little with a comment on blowing out highlights and eliminated shadow detail...I am a stickler for bleachy highlights and none show up here. And HDR is supposed to bring out detail in shadowed areas, so I have no squabble with you doing that! The fact that the tree is backlit adds a surreal atmosphere to the whole shot, and I do appreciate that.

What I like: I am a fan of solitary trees and this is a beauty for sure. I like the composition and focus and that the photograph is clean throughout.

What I don't like: I think you processed it just a bit to much which eliminated some of the details in the shadows and blew out some of the highlights. It is an overall nice looking photograph.
