A Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) provides me with the perfect profile photograph at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, Texas, USA.

Was not able to get the photograph that I wanted for this challenge so had to go with something else. I was so close to this GBH that his head fill the frame but did not provide a good composition. So I added some canvas and used content aware in PS to fill it in.

I am curious how people will vote on this challenge. Will they.....
1 - Vote as if it is a free study
2 - Vote higher/lower if they can tell the rule broken
3 - Vote higher/lower if they cannot tell the rule broken

I will be surprised if anyone notices what rule I have broken and if anyone does I am going to say they notice the extra canvas on top and not on the right (to me I can tell a slight difference but I know what I am looking for). Going to be interesting and looking forward to the results.

It did not do as well as I thought it would. I thought I had added the photograph of the image before adding canvas but it looks like I had not. So here is the image before I took it into PS to add the canvas. Prior to adding the canvas this photo could have been entered in a Basic Editing rules challenge.

Hello from the Critique club

An excellent image that meets the challenge well

I can understand and relate to your comments wholeheartedly, I am equally confused by the voters reaction having just commented an image that scored a lot higher than yours and yet this both in terms of the challenge and the image itself is the better image in my opinion. You've certainly filled the frame well here and you've nailed the sharp focus that is essential for this type of image. Your manipulation of the image with the canvas is only faintly evident with the benefit of your description which, of course, the voters don't have the benefit of. The difference in the canvas part is such that it would be perfectly acceptable in an original image. I love the twin shadows from his crest on the back of hos neck, I think you've made an excellent job of everything about the image and I commend you.

Thank you for your entry.
