 The Red Crossbills were active this morning. They are year-round residents. The male is brick red and the female is yellowish. They are distinctive because of their specialized beak adaptation for extracting seed from pine cones. Canon EOS5DmkIII, Canon EF400mm f/5.6L USM, 1/1000s@f/5.6, ISO 400, lens focal length 400mm. 02/12/16 8:11AM. Deer Ridge Junction, RMNP.
