A sequel to Dreams of the Sea and Called to the Sea.

Shot into the sunset at Crosby Beach.

Part of a series of photographs shot for a departed friend, images of aquatic dissolution, peace in drowning and strength in human creations left to decay by water.

Symbolism of emerging, alone, from the dark sea. Perhaps a self-portrait. Darkened by one's experience there, and showing no signs of actually moving onto the shore, the respite is brief and the ocean will swallow the subject once more. But meanwhile, on the horizon something is different - progress, change, endless detail offering promise. Standing on the cusp of stepping out, or diving back in - the decision point.

The first, and possibly only one of this series not filtered, desaturated and converted to duotone. Called to the Sea was simple black, but this is actually a full colour image, almost straight from the camera - the apparent desaturation comes from shooting a very long lens right into the light on a grey day. Which is symbolic too, of course.
