 It's a good year to observe Wilson's Snipe. I'm seeing many snipe... more often. Displaying males fly high in the sky and make a curious whistling noise (“winnowing”), created by air passing over his modified outer tail feathers. This is from Upper Beaver Meadows, RMNP. The snipe assumed I could not see him, but he forgot that he stands out in contrast to the snow. 04/30/16 4:09PM. Canon EOS 5DmkIII, Canon EF400mm f/5.6L USM, 1/1000s@f/5.6, ISO 400, lens focal length 400mm.
