You never know who you'll find in any given train car. Sometimes you are lucky and find an interesting gentleman with piercing eyes basking in the flattering fluorescent train light. My daughter asked, "how did you get so creepily close?" That's your only choice in the close train quarters. I was especially lucky to find him on a short train ride the last day of the month when I had nothing much ready for the free study.

Wow. My first blue ribbon on a Free Study. It's a happy birthday gift for me.

Marvelous image. I appreciate your explanation to Penny's question too. It gives a nice context to go with the superb image. Congrats on the blue.

Such a powerful portrait. Such a well-deserved ribbon. And quite an accomplishment in a FS.

And happy birthday, again :)

I do not use a remote. I was standing with the camera hanging from the strap around my neck. My hands were resting on top. The camera is nearly silent.

Such an amazing shot. A poignant expression that left me curious about what he was thinking.

What a stunning shot. Just wow. Don't blame it on luck - you had to recognize this situation and capture it perfectly.
And btw: Happy Birthday!

Congratulations on a well deserved blue, Mark. Amazing candid, particularly considering the proximity. Thank god for chance encounters and small cameras.

I can imagine a mass-transit themed photo book in your future. :)

On my very first photography workshop, my teacher told me that if you shoot an image where you can then count the subjects eyelashes, you've done a most excellent job. Well Mark, you've done just that!

Very brave shot. Can't believe it's your first blue in a FS was sure you'd already achieved that!

Congrats Mark - a nice blue ribbon for your birthday. I gave this a 9 but on reflection I really should have given it a 10:)
