 Shot RAW in White Sands National Monument. Colors saturated a bit, run through Nik HDR as a single shot. The sky blurred as average then tweaked the blue/aqua. Added a stroke border.

This is an amazing photo of one of my favorite places on earth. The composition, and contrasts between the gypsum sand, bush, background mountains, and sky really make this a wonderful image. Congratulations on a well deserved blue ribbon.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge

Wow! Just what an image should do to you, make you say wow. This is a gorgeous landscape and its because of its simplicity that it has that wow effect. The composition and the colours are gorgeous, the lighting and exposure are good with good detail retained in the whites where it matters and that lovely blue backdrop really sets it off. The green bush adds a strong focal point though I think this would have worked equally well without it, adding to the scene’s simplicity. A minor criticism is that there are halos, not on the dunes but on the blue mountain sky junction, they are not excessive but they are evident, apart from this the image is lovely. Congratulations Tom on your splendid score and result for a truly splendid image.

I recognize this landscape... the composition of the b&w picture might have been a little stronger, but I like this one way better! Isn't it an awesome contrast?

Very strong composition, if only that shrub were a little sharper though... I would also have got rid of the sharpening halos at the edges of the dune and the background mountain. Still, one of my highest scores in this contest.
