 Wood kinetic sculpture Monarch II by David Roy. It is about 3 feet in diameter, made from straight wood bent to shape. Spring-powered, it makes a fascinating variety of shapes as the two main wheels move about each other. All the curves are intended here as a contrast to the idea of "square," while the square crop is actually useful for an essentially circular subject. Shot jpg in camera on tripod with camera set to mild sharpening, mild saturation enhancement, mild contrast increase; lighting took some experimentation to avoid distorted shadows (which were interesting but not good for this contest) and avoid glare. Imported, cropped square and centered, saved for web.
