Location: Kew Gardens, Richmond, Surrey, England

Shutter: 1/160

Only my 2nd Entry ever following a previous DQ for a silly mistake. So here we go again. Decided to head to Kew Gardens specifically to enter on of the challenges, and found pink/red harder than expected.

However they had a huge orchid display, and this was one of the closer shots I got, as many of the more distant shots wouldn't have left enough pink in the photo.

Phooey on the naysayers! This is a nice shot, and - at least to my eye - definitely pink.
To my eye, what hurts this shot is a disconnect between the lighting and the main feature. For me, the main feature is the flower on the left (Western culture bias - reading left to right, plus it is closer and larger than the one on the right - both are directly facing the camera - the other pink blooms between are at an angle). However, the flower on the right is in full light, but the one on the left seems to be a bit of a shadow.
I don't find the pipe all that distracting, but I agree that it would be an improvement to crop off the clamp on the left (not all Minimal editing challenges allow cropping, but this one did).

Looks purple instead of red or pink to me.

But what really hurts is the distracting elements. The metal clamp thingy on the left. The bright white blown out areas. Maybe moving around the flower a bit more to find a composition without what I assume is a window would help.
