That's funny. Title doesn't perhaps do it justice. While admittedly not thrilling, it unfortunately transcends boring by a good bit. It's not quite formulaic enough for a ribbon, alas. You reached for mawkish, I can see that, but sadly you fell a touch short: purple is not a naturally mawkish colour ... more regal, In fact. The photograph is, I'm afraid, therefore comfortably consequential, by virtue of its splendid shortcomings. I gave it a 7. No choice, really. Thank you.
P.S. I want you to know that in spite of our bit of fun, I actually do think this is quite beautiful. The colours and tones are perfect, but here's another test I use when I'm confronted with an image that I think I'm loving more for its graphic qualities than for its subject: I close one eye and squint severely with the other one, so that it becomes a near-abstract. Is it beautiful then? Or does it simply dissolve into mush? This one is one of the rare few that is further elevated by a squint. Another way to do this test is to simply look at the thumbnail, and make the same judgement. You get a pass on the very tricky thumbnail test as well. So all-in-all your title is of no consequence I'm afraid, but the picture is pleasing in more ways than one. |
