People get rather irritated with my cat/bird/squirrel photos. But realize that I've lost my models (especially when my husband is out of town.) So it's either Moriarty or me. And, believe me, you'd much rather have photos of Mo!!!

Cats really do add an extra degree of difficulty, especially if you're trying specialized lighting! You try putting a snooted light on an animal who WONT stay where you place him! Every time you get the light placed exactly where you want it, he decides to move. Usually any shot with Mo takes at least 40-50 shot minimum to get.

I tried playing around with this tutorial: Beam of light: take and make great photos with Gavin Hoey

I wasn't able to get the slit for multiple reasons -- but I did extend the snoot to try to get a smaller beam. I do want to play with this more and even try to get some spray fog or something to get the feeling of light rays or dust mites or something. I'd love to be able to create some interesting scenes.

Thanks to Mo -- and thanks for the comments. And triple thanks for the fav!!!

Beautiful picture of Mo! I love your squirrels, cats, birds :-). OTOH I find many portraits that I see on the internet (in general) very boring - another pretty face in a "clam", side, ring light - yawn. I think many people who never photographed animals have no idea how tricky that can be.
Thank you for the link - just what I need. My lighting sucks and my understanding of light is even worse if that is possible :-). I just announced my "portfolio project" at our photoclub for this year and I chose "food photography". Interesting lighting is one of the things I want to play with.

Great image Wendy, I love cat and really envy your way to take photo to them. When I try, it is almost always a fail ^_^.
A 8 from me!
