The cool blue colors and the variety of sizes and angles of little waterfalls make this pleasing to look at. I think a slightly faster shutter speed would have captured a bit more detail in the water without losing the silky effect, and also might have eliminated a couple of overexposed areas. There are two minor distractions that could be fixed with editing. The little patch of grass on the left edge, on top of the foreground rocks could be cropped off. Also, I think you applied a tiny bit too much sharpening, as the edges of the rock at the upper left look unnatural, especially when compared to the softness of the water.

very definate haze on upper left rocks.

Great long exposure. Really shows all the different paths that the water takes. I could stare at this for ages and bet the full size image is killer.

This seems like an oversharpened normal long exposure shot. Nice hues and light forms, but i don't think it associates with impressionism in my mind.

Wonderful shot. You have proved your expertise with the camera in the way you have set up this picture and captured the moment.

I love the angel hair effect of time lapse on this kind of water. As a photo, this gets high marks alone for composition. Even tho the left side seems heavy at first with the peak and foreground it is nicely offset by the 2/3 sky. Too much photo in the foreground tho to push it over the top for impression.

the hard rock in the FG destroy the soft feeling of this photo (they, of course, also oppose it, but too much IMHO).

WHERE is this?!??!?!?!?
11/17/2004 06:38:03 PM
It's pretty with the blues but it looks to much as if it's just a regular picture taken for any other challenge. I've seen the smooth water shots a lot. The oversharpened upper left rock is really distracting. Other than that, if it was another challenge, I'd probably give you a high score.

I would have softened the upper left out cropping and the lower left rock formation
to fit with the rest of the photo. This is only my opinion based on impressionistic paintings. The overall blue is very good.

Great picture, at first I didn't think this was impressionism but I have been chosen wrong and this picture is great.

Wow. Incredible shot. Very beautiful. But in my mind it doesn't fit the challenge- there's an awful lot of detail visible, while a crop that included far fewer rocks would have struck me as much more impressionistic.

Great capture, I enjoy the contrast beteen the water and the sky. The colors in this photo mix together very well and give the image a cool crisp feeling.

Ilike this shot except for the cromtic abberation on the edge of the rocks in the top left of the photo

A stunning image, I love the cool blue tint. I would crop away part of the bottom rocks. I find it too clear and sharp for me to classify as impressionistic.

Very dreamy effect on this image. Not sure if you used a long shuter speed or if it was in photoshop -- it's really hard to tell. That rock in the foreground that is in focus definately gives the image great composition and a really nice feeling of depth as well. great job!

I've placed your photograph second in my ranking. You've reworked a very common motif very well by getting in close to give it an almost abstract feel. I wonder if the rocks in the foreground and background pull me back into reality to quickly: what was your aim in including them? The blue tone adds to the dreamy feeling. Overall, a very accomplished piece of work. Well done.

Very fine work. The composition is good and the balance in the dark areas is very fine and makes a triangle which leads the aye around the image. The colours are chilly and soft but the grass in the foreground really bridges the viewer back to reality from the fantasy. A big plus for not overdoing the shot with effects but the rock in the top left corner has a nasty halo probably from to much USM. One of my highest rated in the challenge. Congrats.

Lovely image, I think it would make a great B&W, but I dont find it impressionistic. (It also looks oversharpened).

returning for comments:
I would prefer this image to begin at the top right just above the waterfall. Outside of this this is a highly photographic impressionistic image wherein nothing was used but the water movement to create a great image with beautiful patterns of water flowing over rocks.

Wow, this is gorgeous. An unusual idea to use motion blur to create the impressionist feel. I don't understand why you left the very ugly sharpening halo around the rocks in the upper-left. There are several ways you could have got rid of this under an advanced challenge. 9

Very nice, water looks surreal. Only thing bothering me is the sharpening halo in the top left corner. Top 3, would like to see a ribbon.

Beautiful flow and grounding using the rocks. Looks just a bit too sharpened on the top rock. The best is the unbroken line of the top falls, it really puts the viewer off guard.

Gullfoss? Love the shot, only thing missing is something to give it a sense of scale but that is hardly neccesary, I gave it a 10.

Awesome phot, but not impressionism in my opinion. Sorry
11/15/2004 02:05:36 AM
Awesome, I truely love these shots and this is IMHO a great masterpiece

I already added this to favorites, and I've come back to look at it again. Wow it's amazing to think everyone can get better when I look at this and think "How could you possibly improve on this" You can't. I wanted to give this (rare for me on a landscape) way above ten. I could see hanging this up and that may not mean much to you, but to me that's saying something.

This is beautiful, but-- and this is just my opinion-- I think it would have been a tad better had the sharp rock in the foreground been removed. Everything else is just so soft and pretty, and I feel like the close rock challenges the mood of the photo. It's a great shot, though... 9
