Thank you for all the wonderful poems and prose, so thoughtfully created. These hemp dogbane or Indian Hemp seeds were buried beneath the milkweed patch I love to visit and photograph during the autumn months. We've had a lot of nor'easters with heavy snowfall this past winter so I was surprised to find these seeds with the white hairs still intact. Hence, the title.

so fragile
and yet powerful
promise of new spring

The sun had not returned,
nor the bees to the meadow,
and for 34 moons,
we waited, in silence,
and wept.

The remains of winter past,
filled up our minds,
and glided to the cold muddy earth,
like French Paratroopers,
seeking shelter.

Balloons cannot replace love,
seeds cannot undo the will of God Above.
The earth cannot breathe choking
Upon its own blood,
with the Remains of Winters Past.

Winter is but memories
Wispy
Fragile
Clinging together
Waiting to be scattered
By the winds of time
Dispersed
Along with those of other winters
of other seasons
of all times past.
