VERY Last minute. Greg pic is from 2014. Miss that guy!

[May. 7th, 2018 12:33:41 AM]

Definitely not the closest I've cut it with a challenge entry, but pretty frenetic nonetheless. I just happened to pop into DPC at 27 minutes before rollover and saw this challenge and thought I could come up with something quickly. Then I realized I had let my membership expire and this was a member challenge. So I very quickly renewed for a month and started looking through my archives. I had originally intended to use my Grandpa who passed in 2016, but there were complications with the photos I had of him. Then I thought of Greg and knew I had a few shots from our GTG in 2014. Found the one I wanted to use and then had to think about what context I could use it in and came up with this. Quick change of clothes, setup backdrop, tripod, camera and remote shutter release and then unpacked my old Canon 6D (currently for sale on ebay) and set it up to look like I was using it. Snap four shots, run over and yank the card from the camera and plug it into the computer. Look at the clock: 12 minutes to go! Shit! No more looking at the clock. Edit edit edit edit, crop, resize, save. Getting ready to upload - ONE MINUTE - Upload, submit... "Warning, the exposure date bla bla bla" Shit! Change the date, click submit... accepted! Ugh, the title! Gotta change the title! Click clack click clack, submit... page refreshes to the rollover screen! Crossing fingers... Whew, it took! All in all a small miracle and I credit GregoryB with being here with me to keep me calm and help me out by maybe stopping time for a couple minutes (pretty sure).

Don't care how it finishes, but glad to get in a small tribute to a wonderful friend that has very recently passed.

i opened this up and did a double take ... you know when you see something or someone you recognize but it doesnt compute immediately ..
when the various synopses in my brain fired up i got emotional ..
i was lucky i got to see greg only a couple of days before he passed away ..
you have created a wonderful image here .. its crazy .. it really is like he's looking at the camera you have in your hand ... but thats your gift .. creating magic with your photos ..
i've read all you wrote about how you created this image and the time you had to do it in .. like no time .. i'm so pleased that you were able to get this into the challenge ..
its a great tribute to greg .. and i'm sure he'd absolutely love it .. xx

oh .. and edit to add ..
CONGRATS ON THE BLUE ..!!..
usually that would be the most important thing to say .. but in this case thats almost secondary .. altho still wonderful .. :)

Congratulations Ken. I thought this was good when viewing it; and now that I know the backstory, it is even more emotional. I'm glad you won that one.

Very nice effort, Ken. I did not mean to lessen the appreciation of your work by my comment on Christophe's entry. It is a great thing you did for the memory of Greg. I did not know him but I see that he is a fellow Aussie.

Affectionate, evocative tribute. Just to be able to chat again is all that's desired, to be together. Greg seems just inches from actual, engaged and at ease. The fade is just enough to be tantalizing, the rolls in his sleeve intimate volume and presence. The overall detail furthers the illusion. The frame is full of light. Quietly moving.
