I hope I don't get marked down by ppl who think a portrait should be a person ... pet portraits are a thing .. and the challenge didn't specify that it had to be a person ..
i reckon an insect would have been acceptable too .. lol ..
e.g...

and I hope ppl don't mark me down thinking the sun's rays were added in Photoshop.. they are the real thing ..

after rollover ..
GO TODDY .. !! ..
thankyou everyone for your lovely comments during voting ..

if you want to know the backstory ..
i had to go check a fence that had fallen down ..
the sun was setting ..
and i thought of this natural light portrait challenge ..
i tried many times to get photos of toddy looking a me with the sun behind him .. which he did sometimes ..
but he has a mind of his own and he got a bit bored being asked to sit and look at me .. not the best view at the best of times .. hahaha ..
there were a couple of him looking at me with the sun behind him like this .. but i liked this one the best ..

thankyou again everyone .. this is AWESOME ..
he's going to get an extra bit of cooked chicken tonight as a treat .. xx

hey Gaby .. he's a mini foxie .. they're an australian breed .. very similar to the rat terrier but i think the mini foxie is smaller ..
toddy currently weighs 4.5kg .. and is 8 months old .. :)

I concur with the previous comments, this is wonderful. The lighting is perfect (look at those rays!), depth of field is exactly what it needs to be, and the attitude you captured brings much life to the photo. It is so good, one could just expect the dog to turn his head and jump out of the screen. Congratulations!

This is such a good photo. And not just because the dog is so cute and sitting still.
The composition is literally making us look exactly where you want us to look, maybe where are you are looking.
The ears and the curvature of the neck, and then going around in the order of importance.
And of course the light beam adds just the right touch, like the icing on top.

Gorgeous. The unconventional framing works very well with the light rays here.
