hi, darren, sorry to pick on you, but i'm trying to keep my comment count up, and this one is an easy target. nice, simple, clean, well deserving of its score. you might consider it a sellout, but all the same, you shouldn't be dismissive of the effort. the ability to 'throw something together' has to have root somewhere...

Thanks for the comments :)

I have to admit that I thought I was 'selling out' a little with this pic, I was not sure about the texture of the wood and was tempted to do it all smooth.

It feels really good to get my first top ten finish :)

Congratualtions Darren on your eighth place. This was one of my favorites.

Barren: you have outdone yourself here. Yes, there are many of these pencil studies but I have never seen them this tight and neat and a gritty texture to boot. Congratulations on your 8th finish. Very good work.

Although I have seen this type shot here before this one is well done. Good choice of colors and excellent focus. Good job.

Excellent color. I think I would like to see the pencils with out the course grain.

An ultra tight composition. lol Well, the texture and color sing as if from atop a mountain. An outstanding effort and an image that stands out above the lot in this challenge. Very good work, Bumping up.

Another classic DPC subject well shot, cropped and editied. Focus is spot on (thank you) and the texture fo the wood is interesting. I like the strong zig-zag. The only thing I might suggest is to find and boost a strong white point.

I love the layout of the shot

I'd have liked to see a brighter background and a tighter crop. You might have used new pencils, the scratches on these take some of the harmony.

Sharp! (Pun intended). It doesn't wow me, but it is a good shot that meets the challenge. 7.

sweet. I like it! and you got all 7 colors in the rainbow. most people leave out the second shade of purple and it irritates me. lol. focus and clarity are awesome. I like the setup and lighting is good as well. overall a very nice shot, and good luck in the challenge. ~Heather~

Nice and clean. There is one spot below the black pencil that should have been removed.

I really liked this in the preview size. At full view size it's almost overwhelming and the eye wanders from the color and lands on the wood grain texture.

Very nicely composed. A little out of rainbow sequence though. (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet)

would it have been improved with a whiter background?

Very cool composition - love how the pencils nest. Focus seems a bit soft, lighting a bit harsh. 7

Love the compostion colors and subject, but the shot feels a little off technically. I think the image suffers from what looks like a really tight crop and not enough light. Focus seems a little soft, maybe camera shake too?
