This was an assignment I had the honor of participating in with the Flashes of Hope organization. I packed up my lights, backdrop and camera gear and headed to San Antonio's Santa Rosa Children's Hospital to take professional portraits for 13 families dealing with a child in their family battling terminal cancer. It was very emotional for me because the room they coincidentally chose to do the photoshoot in was the very room that the company I used to work for had renovated as a memorial gift to my co-worker's family to honor her 3-year old granddaughter's brave battle with cancer while we all loved and prayed for her. A big beautiful portrait of our beloved Justine smiled at me the entire day as if she was telling me she was proud that I was doing this for the families going through what hers went thru. I wouldn't trade the experience of sharing their story with them for anything. These kids and their families were so brave.

I had a few blooper photos I was considering entering for this challenge (what photographer doesn't have them), but in the end, because of some of my own current and recent experiences with my loved ones battling cancer, I decided to express my grief over this insidious killer with the most heartfelt "DANG IT, Cancer!!" that I could muster up.

Congratulations, Sandy. What a beautiful and connecting photo. Thanks for adding the story behind this. I do hope that the young patient does well. This must be a very hard time for both sisters.

My Blue on every level possible. Great photography that comes second to only the story. Captures beauty and love which the world has no understanding of in it's current state
