Challenge: Hidden Faces (Advanced Editing III)
Camera: Sony DSC-F828
Location: Marsaxlokk, Malta
Date: Dec 23, 2004
Aperture: 5.0
ISO: 64
Shutter: 1/25
Date Uploaded: Dec 23, 2004

This was an accidental shot, kind of. I was editing for another project and noticed this pathetic little face poking out of the frame. I immediately spent 3 1/2 hours on the Maltese bus system, and about 15 minutes shooting.

The eyes and paint are entirely as the boats sits, adorning the entrance to a restaurant on the corner.

I like this one.
Apparently I gave it a 7 during the challenge.
the colors are great and the accidental face is superb.
maybe it's not totally accidental as someone has put eyes on there, but it's still an interesting find.
the only thing I don't like is the background in the corners, but you said that this was at an entrance to a restaurant, so i'm sure there's not a lot you could have done about it?

Dave

Such a forlorn look fits the condition of the boat *grin*. It's a natural subject fo a photograph, and on of my favorites in the challenge.

You've done a nice job capturing the tonal range and the detail of the flaking paint. The composition puts the 'face', and the lines of the boat pull the viewer's eye there.

My first suggestion assumes our monitors are calibrated the same, but the colors look slightly muddy to me. I've found a one-stop over exposure lends a 'snap' to darker subjects, without a loss of highlight detail. The muddiness may not show on your monitor, though - a difficulty with online images.

My only other minor nit are the 'holes of light' at the left edge of the image. They tend to pull my eye away from the subject.

Just my thoughts. A very nice image.

Mixed feelings about this. I like the mouth, but think the eyes are not that 'hidden'. First time in a while I don't really know how to vote. 6 for now.

Didn't like this at first because it seemed that the "face" was intended. But there's more here than the eyes on the bow. The weathering which creates the mouth persuaded me to understand that you saw more than there was to see.

Love the colors, texture, framing. Nicely done!

This looks like it could have been taken in Malta.
I saw a lot of these type of boats while on holiday there in 95.
I like this but it will be down to how many voters think it meets the challenge.
Good luck

Wonderful! The aged look of the wood and peeling paint gives this a great feel. Textures, colors, and lines are perfect. Exposure is right dead on. I wish those (plastic looking) eyes were not there, but you have to take hat you get. The blue-white spots near the top of the left side are a bit bothersome.

Creative and artistically presented. My only concern is that those eyes are literally 'eyes' and thus some may question if this entry meets the challenge requirements (I think it does). With that aside, this is a worthy entry without glaring technical deficits. (probably could have adjusted the saturation selectively to make the red and yellow more lively)

Very nice shot. Unfortunately I don't think that it fully matches the challenge as the eyes are meant to be eyes on this boat. You may well get marked down. Good luck.

I'm not sure this qualifies as a "hidden face" since the fishermen pout eyes on the boats deliberately, but it's a hell of a nice image.
