Challenge: New Year's Resolution III (Advanced Editing III)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 5400
Location: Ilkley Moor
Date: Dec 31, 2004
Aperture: f/7.9
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Jan 1, 2005

From the very last day of 2004, and then kind of forced into the challenge - but then, all the New Year's Resolution challenges have been a force.

I no longer like it so much - it's extraordinary how one's view of things changes when one has exhibited them for a while. I remember very deliberately taking those horizon lines of the valley to silhouette - I would change that now, and try to keep more detail there, and probably reduce contrast throughout much of the image, and perhaps intensify the sky somewhat. And another damned 4th place.

Ed

This was one of my top three. You have a nice eye and a subtle touch with editing. Personal taste would have asked for a twek in the contrast, but his has a nice moody feel theat might be lost if you did so.

Nice work.

This really is a beautiful shot, brings to mind the style of one photographer whom I will not name because I'm still a newbie here and I'm probably wrong :) At first I was bothered by not being able to tell what the resolution might be without reading the title, but its such an incredible photo I'm not going to let that bring the score down, back to bump up before the final tally in an hour.

I think shooting photos like this would be alright! I know what you mean though, I have that problem as well. I take tons and tons of photos and I know that most of them are crap but I can't help myself and it takes away from actually partaking and enjoying in where I am and what I am doing, esp. the peace of a voyage into nature. The only problem with this beautiful image is that some of the dodging and burning is a little obvious in areas but I don't really mind that sort of look. 10

There is something lovely about this image and yet there is something that is far removed from real nature. However, the impression is strong. It has the feel of an oil painting and in this sense it excells. Bumping up.

Hmm, mine is the reverse: Stop looking, start shooting. :)

I like the dark mood and how the stream and sides of the hills leads me down. The clouds in the sky are not of a very interesting nature, I don't like it how they look. The orange and green colors of the foliage however look quite interesting. 8

this is a nice picture but the title influences it too much for me.

This image is incredibly pleasing. Beautiful scene and excellent post-processing. On one level this image is positively serene - but then the post processing throws that a little off kilter - challenges the serenity if you will, which makes for a really dramatic and effective landscape shot. I'm almost certain of the photographer here - Let's just say that if voters are a little flexible with the challenge you should have even more green on your profile page after this. (Of course that statement is to be ignored if you are not in fact Ed Clarke or e301).

Gaping in awe. This shot is truly exceptional, and was the only one out of the whole contest that said anything to me. Truly excellent shot.

it really is important to strike a balance between taking in a scene and taking a picture of it. sometimes i think it's better to go out without a camera so that i actually remember to look at what's in front of me, instead of pulling out the camera, shooting it, and then feeling like i've accomplished my business there.

great photo, great title. 9.

Beautiful shot. Looks like a painting. I think I would be taking alot of shots of this panorama so that I could enjoy it again and again! Great job.

If Ansel Adams shot in color, I think it would've looked like this.

I like it, the light and color tones are nice -- the composition works really well too, although placing the view between the hills a bit higher in the frame would make the whole thing more dynamic I think
