Shutter: 1/50

My grandmam's sister, she has the best wrinkles on her face from the whole family. I was lucky she came to visit.

Shot just with 50mm 1.8 lens at iso 800 in not very good lighning in the restaurant. Whatever, it's a candid.

Congratulations on your top 20. A classic character study with the toll of time expressed most sympathetically.

great photo, but the reason for my low score is because, my idea of a candid is NOT having the subject's eyes looking at the lens

I like this shot. The face and detail of the age lines and clarity of the eyes is great. I think a bit soft on the DOF left as it seems her hair and arm should also be in focus. The highlights on this side seem too strong and draw the eye away from the subject. Overall tho a strong image. Bumping to 8

I think one will do very well, because it is a great photograph. But you may lose some points because she is looking directly at you, so there is no telling if it is really candid or not. Maybe she turned to look at you the moment you pressed the shutter button, maybe she was looking at you the whole time. It's a great portrait regardless.

This is an excellent portrait Martin. Not sure if the voters will perceive this to be 'posed' or not, which might impact your place. I would be dissapointed if this was not top 3. The expression is so very natural.

It may be that you won't agree with me, but in my mind "candid" implies a photograph of a person at a candid (i.e. unaware of the camera) moment. So, to that way of thinking, this doesn't really meet the challenge.

This is such a great photo. though, that I'll assume it was taken with a really long lens and that the subject really wasn't aware. Great character in the face. Perfectly lit. Nicely framed. Very appealing in its white point / black point balance. Focus is dead on. In short a perfect photo ... except for the challenge theme thing.

The focus and the tones here are excellent. It doesn't feel real candid to me, but wow what an excellent portrait. 9.

Apparently not a candid...

In a field of strong contenders, this amazing capture surfaces resoundingly as a forerunner for the ribbon. :-) What strikes me most about this image is the steel and brightness in her eyes, and that's what makes a truly great portrait.

Wonderful details, tonal range, DOF, framing and composition. 10

Whoa. As the picture was loading so I could rate it, saw gray/white hair and thought "yeah, looks like an old lady's hair" but then it got to the skin (you know how it loads from top to bottom) and I say what I thought was..I don't know...silver makeup? Don't ask. Anyway. I just thought that black and white was a cool choice for this photo.

Wonderful compositiona nd expression, marred somewhat by less-than-critical visual acuity and a tad too much contrast.

Excellent shot, but it doesn't look candid to me...

Nice work
One thing I would say is that the composition is to tight. It feels to much like a portrait. But I will not hammer the vote for that reason. Maybe more background and surroundings would have given it a more candid feeling.
