You were robbed. I gave it a 10. maybe others need to adjust their monitors so they "get it"? The most creative shot in the field, and very well done. Sorry you didn't get the ribbon, I missed my guess.

Yeah - talk about ripped off :) - this belonged somewhere in the top five. I'm really surprised that some people had trouble seeing the hand. I assumed you might suffer because you only included a hand and not a whole person (I didn't think that would be an issue, but according to about half of the comments on my submission it was), but again didn't think you'd have the problem it seemed you had.

thanks for all the comments. obviously many found this an interesting photo which makes me happy. there also seems ( by the number of 1's ) some who didn't see the tie to the challenge.

i aimed for an optical illusion, which used the human element in a blatently obvious way. i knew many entries would have tiny little hidden people in them. the illusion is two-fold. one is the hidden hand. the other i hoped would be folks seeing there own waldo's in the purple dribbles ;}

pretty simple set up. used a 9x13" pyrex pan, some white interior paint, and some deep purple trim paint. i asked a room mate to dunk her hand in the white paint in the pan, and fully cover it. once it smoothed out, and the bubbles were mainly gone. i used a paint stick to dribble the purple paint over her hand. the point of view of the camera was such to hide the shadows made by the 3D hand, but leave enough of them to let the hand be somewhat obvious.

for the print - i cleaned up some minor flaws - mainly small bubbles.

thanks again.

This was my highest rated photo in the challenge. YOU WERE ROBBED! There is a photo that finished above yours that doesn't even meet the challenge for crying out loud. The people who rated this low need to be dope slapped with a fish.

There were a lot of great shots in this challenge, but this was my favorite by far. It's one of the most creative photos I've ever seen. It's too bad that it was so creative that some people had trouble telling what was going on, (took me awhile too!) but I hope that doesn't keep you from coming up with more briliant shots like this for future challenges. Really great job!

Sorry, I don't get it. Where is the person?

Thanks for the email. I went back and looked harder and found it. I would love to know how you did this. It is a coool picture.

I look 4 times until saw the hand behind the ink. The interesting thing is that some blue ink paths seems to be people sitting. Great job!

Marvellously simple, yet effective! Only improvement I can think of is to play with curves to get the dark paint darker (or even completely black). Would also be interesting to see this done with the lines more or less straight and parallel, at some interesting angle to the fingers. 7

Very nice picture. Good contrast. This is what it's all about. Using our creativity. ( Is that waldo on about the fifth fold up kneeling and looking into a pool or puddle or have I had to much BAILEYS in my cofee. -he he.) just kidding. nice image.

That is WAY clever! I was just about to post saying 'I don't get it!' but - hey! then I saw the hand underneath. That's really satisfying.

Excellent. My pick for top honors, but my say doesn't have a lot of weight around here. Good luck, and great photo.

Not quite sure if a hand counts as a person - like the effect though,

Very creative shot! Had to look twice to see the hand. I like the composition and can't wait to see how this was done.

INteresting shot - if this was just the hand I wouldnt have been impressed - and would have seen it as merely a lesser version of one of the last waldo challenges ribbon winners. The purple paint is, however, a nice touch, and the little boy figure hidden in the paint seals the deal. 9
