Challenge: Best of 2004 (Advanced Editing III*)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Location: Sunset Beach Bar, St Martin
Date: Dec 5, 2004
Aperture: 5.0
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/2000
Galleries: Travel, Transportation
Date Uploaded: Jan 14, 2005

Lens = Canon 28-135 IS USM

We watched for hours as 737's, 757's, A300's, and others passed by as they landed at Princess Juliana airport. Takeoff was in the same direction, and it wasn't much easier since there was a mountain to dodge. This was the highlight of the day; the second highlight was watching the person on the beach get blown into the surf by the 747 jet blast!

this is an INCREDIBLE capture...I have seen it replicated on many sites on the internet. even though that constitutes a form of plagarism, you should be flattered.

The shadow on the runway is from the wings. Look at the angle of the shadow on the side of the plane.

"The second highlight was watching the person on the beach get blown into the surf by the 747 jet blast!"

I was wondering how all that sand stayed on the beach, it looks like huge clouds of it should be blown away with every plane.

That is a fantastic capture. I like taking pictures of airplane landings myself, but I've never seen anything that spectacular.

Very interesting photo, I'm sure you got a lot of comments on this one. You have great colors and the photo certainly jumps out and screams 'look at me, look at me'. Great catch.

Great catch of a decisive moment. Seems like a dangerous beach if they keep coming in that low. Bumping up.

Always quite dramatic to see. A view which doesn't show the airport would afford more drama though.

Standing against those railings and looking out to sea would show an increased level of drama with no clue as to where the jet is heading.

Oh, HOW I wish attention had been paid in post-processing to a richer expression of tonal values in this image. The whole is about a half stop too light, and the foreground even more washed out, perhaps a full stop. Also, it's leaning half a degree to the right, and that disturbs slightly. Wonderful capture!

I was waiting for the validation on this. I still don't see how this could be real, mainly because of the lack of reaction on ppl on the beach, but no matter how this is created I like it and you deserve a 8

Eh - Holy Cow - almost unrealistic and bizarre in a way. Real? Time will tell.
This is a case of a decisive moment if there was ever one. ((8))

Wow, this is an awesome shot. It reminds me of a picture I took for the Signs Revisited challenge about 2 years ago (//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=11249). Yours is so much better though. Great shot. I love the blues of the umbrellas and the plane against the blue sky.

I was once told that the speed and accuracy f writing files toa hard disk equates to flying a jumbo jet at 4 inches above the ground at 4000 miles an hour. I din't realise someone had ctually done that. Fascinating shot.

Great colors and saturation. The composition is spot on. I believe that you will have a much better photo than the other photo takers in the shot! The beach umberellas work nicely with the tail colors...

It's been validated. - I wont be flying Corsair anytime soon! Not until this pilot is fired! You may want to contact Corsair about buying all rights to this photo. I'm sure they will make you an offer just to keep their customers from seeing it! Great capture!

I donno what the deal is here but it's freaky if they fly so low... I see it's been validated so it's not a colage. Damn! May not be the best photo in tehnical terms but a striking one for sure. Must of been really noisy there.

Hahah someone requested a DQ, nice. Top photo - I have seen this so many times, but am very envious of you for actually getting there and taking it. Always looks so fake.

Even your exposure is spot on, nice and bright.

Will be sorry if you do not win - my first 10 to you.

I`ve seen pics like this from this beach before and they always amaze me. It`s hard to believe people are allowed on this beach. It`s so frightening i bet alot of voters will think it`s fake. 9

wowowowo if this is not a photoshop fake then I would not like to be on that beach!
Or is it perhaps just a small model in front of the lens?

Would have done great in the extraordinary challenge last year.

this is an attention getter, but you also would have done well with something from the nude beaches... ;-)
