This image expresses just about everything that photography means to me: capturing an instance of reflected light. Of all the miracles of life, vision is the one that has always intrigued me the most. I've always been amazed by the idea that a bird could be flying across an open field, and somehow, light could hit it and be reflected into my eyes, so that I might notice it. Just think about how its movements are constantly reflecting light that will come through to me in perceptable waves of energy. And the thought that you and I may notice the same thing at the same time, but from different perspectives which means that we are receiving the same light waves, but recording them differently...

For me, the pursuit of photography is to capture those instances of light, those moments, those glimpses, and try to do it as my eye would. It is all so fleeting. That's why I am so blown away by this image.

And, as far as a challenge entry goes, well, this works for me, and I'm submitting it for those who get it; it is not for anyone who can't appreciate it for what it is: a glimpse of light, captured.

Post-processing: except for cropping, this is straight out of the camera! Nothing else was done to it!

Here is the original, out of camera image:

Great shot Skip--this was one of my top 10 for the challenge. I like the white on white and of course the lovely motion blur!

Bravo Skip!! For me, in this shot, you have captured the elusive spirit of the bird.

I really like the direction your heading in Skip, this is another fantastic image. One of quite a few of yours I've seen lately.

Skiprow,
Bravo on a daring and beautiful shot. It is unique and stunning. The comments say it all! What really blows me away is that you only cropped this!!! Now, this is art. It truly transcends. I, as always, stand in awe!

I really like this kind of stuff where the subject blends into the background..however, I tend to be in a minority on that.
Hope this is an exception as it is a very appealing image and fits the theme perfectly for me.

I really like the way you've merged the bird into the background...the speed of the bird is emphsized with the blur. Nice placement....great photo!

I just love the abstract feel of this photograph. A fleeting moment captured quite elegantly with the high key exposure, and the title could not be more appropriate. Quite impressive work. 7

a little TOO high key, me thinks. It's nice, but a bit harsh on the eyes.

I love the highkey effect, simplicity, and the motion blur in the wings . If the birds head was sharper this would be perfect
