I'm bracing for a low score on this one, but hoping for the best. It's grainy and not particularly appealing, but I thought the technique was cool, and it certainly depicts pain!

The setup was a pain, too. First, I took a photo of my ever-helpful model in front of a black background. Then, I used a digital video projector to cast the image onto a stone retaining wall outside my garage and took a picture of the illuminated rocks. The stone formed a deep crack in a way that wouldn't have been convincing with a 2D surface (such as tearing a print), and I thought the coarse grain was appropriate to the subject. It was snowing when I shot this, so I had to shield the projector, camera and computer under the liftgate of my truck.

Processing was minimal: crop, USM, and some levels and hue/saturation adjustments.

Shannon--I didn't guess this was yours--to me it's like a beautiful painting! Wonderful. Something I wish I did--maybe that's why it didn't score well for you! ;)

highly underrated... take two aspirin, start working on separation...

This is a great picture, and a stronger entry than its final placement indicates. I guess the price of being highly creative is having a lot of people not really understand--and on the flipside, I can't understand the 102 votes below 5.

Very nice! Really painterly, very good symbolism for pain.

I can't wait to see how this was done within the rules! (I guess something to do with printing first..)

Bumping up.

Not sure how you did this. Appears to be a projection of the image onto a cracked wall. Good job.

Being sort of a newb around here I'm not even sure this fits into the "Basic Editing" catagory (Would appreciate if someone would let me know) Other than that, I'm still not a fan of this pic. 1) Too much noise. 2) Odd Hue and Saturation levels are distracting and 3) Nothing seems to be in focus.

I don't know... Too grainy, maybe. Maybe just too busy. Looks like real pain, though, which I like (the reality of it, not the pain). Points for style.

Can certainly be classified with essential pain. The effect is interesting because it seems to carry its own independent pain. 8
