Sparkplug and steel ruler, incandescent light, whitish towel as backdrop. Macro mode, handheld.

The gap between electrodes on a sparkplug must be set with far greater precision (plus/minus 0.001 inch or so) than is possible with this Metric scale office ruler.

-Used the dodge tool to lighten up some of the shadows in the folds of the background.
-Made a rough selection of background, feathered 8 pixels, applied Gaussian Blur at about 12 pixel diameter. Used the blur tool to selectively blur the edge of the towel in the lower-left corner.
-Applied two RGB Curves for tone/contrast.
-Selected Green Channel and copied to new Grayscale file.
-Applied contrast-enhancing USM at 16%/48 dia/TH=0
-Applied USM at 88%/0.8 dia/TH=5
-Converted to Duptone mode using Black and Cyan with custom curves
-Converted to RGB
-Saved as JPEG=9/10

I like the idea but I feel this is one of those shots that has greatest impact and effect with a spot on sharpness throughout the plus itself

I like the concept of this image and it is a good shot of the spark plug, but the composition could probably use just a touch more focus.

I don't get it... also, foreground and background are both a bit out of focus. You might have wanted to pick one to focus on.

Very original. Love the composition and the color tone, but I think your gap is too small. You car may run ruff, Hehe
