About the model: The model is my 8 1/2 month old cat, Tungsten. He's a Tonkinese, a breed which descends from the mix of Siamese and Burmese. I'm really a dog person, but when I saw one of these guys playing around and found out that Tonks are considered the most "dog-like" breed, I took the plunge and crossed over to the dark side.

About the challenge: He loves to play in the bathtub, and when I first saw the challenge details, I knew exactly what I was going to shoot. The shape of the tub and placement of the lights in my bathroom allow a lot of light to fall on and behind him without too many harsh shadows (especially if he isn't near the sides.)

While I did push the exposure in RAW and lightened considerably with levels in PS, I can assure you that I didn't paint my cat.

Here are a bunch of alternates/outtakes in my portfolio of Tungsten shots:

It's a shot of the "studio," and as you can see, he's not quite so light in real life.

Here is a thread where I'm asking for any critiques that could have improved this shot.

Here is the shot that inspired this entry:

Tungsten is absolutely beautiful, lucky me to see your thread. And no you are now on the receiving end of a lot of genuine affection and always honest attitude, not at all on the dark side :)

Wow, this is one of the best pet shots I've seen - if you managed to recreate something of this standard for the pet challenge, you're just about guarenteed a ribbon.

I like the way the cat appears to be just barely there, but is made unique from the background because of the very beautiful eyes and the interestingly textured fur. Great composition!

Very nice exposure and detail. (Devon Rex?... My neighbors have one and it appears similar.) Great animal portrait! (these can be hard to pull off)
