This is a really good photograph. The lighting is wonderful. Kind of creeps me out though.

Greetings from the Critique Club

This is a wonderfully evocative image - it gets a visceral reaction from most people because of the sense of empathy about the spines. I like the subdued lighting and use of negative space. I might like just a bit more sharpness to the spines.

The pose is interesting, I'm just curious if you tried other angles going up or down the back utilizing forced perspective.

As for the challenge topic, it didn't feel particularly surreal to me, but maybe that's because I've seen folks who implant strange stuff in their body. It just seemed on the fringe. But the commentary it makes on the body has an absurdist feel to it by taking something to an extreme.

I'd love to see more comments by you about the creation of your submission.

Congrats on your top ten finish.

Is that why it's called the spinal column? That's certainly surreal- you must not get hugged very often, and I'm guessing you don't have a waterbed. I'd like to see a bit more space around the head, and less behind... you get the point. ;-)

Wow, pretty cool concept here. I like the lighting which is very dramatic. I would've wished for a slightly sharper focus (perharps a lower F/stop would've helped) and the composition is nice and large, helping the viewer to focus on the subject. Nice idea. 8

This is probably one of the best of the lot. I would have liked to see the subjects back lit a little better and maybe in stronger focus. Well done. 10

It's a really striking image; beautiful and disturbing. It does not evoke the surrealist painters that I studied for the challenge, but it does seem to cut directly to the subconscious in a similar way.

10. A bit 'matrix'-ey but still stunningly surreal. My pick for the Blue.

Very impressive and capable of lingering in the minds eye long after the initial view.
