i like the framing. excellent composition.
03/13/2005 06:48:57 PM
Great choice of subject and excellent light. Detail is strong and repetition of shapes is good. There appears to be some vertical striation in the sky area - quite odd. Tones are very AA.

I'm a fan of photos which have a repeating pattern like this
03/12/2005 05:59:59 AM
I really like the composition and the texture in the masonry, but the sky seems to have gone a bit odd.
03/12/2005 01:28:44 AM
The lower part of this photo is very good, but the sky has ended up looking blotchy

This image is - "Church, Taos Pueblo" By Ansel Adams, New Mexico, 1942.

If we want to see how an actual Adams image will do in a challenge we are going to find out with this one. I'm guessing not a top finisher. (Score: 7)

I love the image. Too bad that there's lots of artifacts and vertical banding in you sky (very strange effect from a camera - I've seen scanners do this - please don't take this as an accusation, it's not). Again very lovely image.

Composition: 9, Love the framing of the first door
Technical: 8, Great tone range. Only thing I can suggest is to decrease the jpeg compression slightly so the shades in the sky are a little smoother
Appeal: 9
Challenge: 10, Shot could be directly out of Ansel's camera if I didn't know better
Overall Calculated Average Score: 9

Great Adams style work. Strange effect to see the top part of the church dark and the lower part well lit. Is this natural?. I love the texture of the materials.
03/10/2005 04:47:57 PM
Very nice, very AA. A little more to the left and it is. This is my highest scoring photo.
03/10/2005 11:38:44 AM
My pick for the best of the challenge. Great Work.

I loved Ansels photo of this same spot. I can't find it anywhere online to compare, but very nicely done and true to the original from what I remember.
03/10/2005 11:21:59 AM
Excellent! Did you take measurements or what? (: I have this photo and it looks like you took it at the exact same spot and time as Ansel did. 10

Quite nice, fite the challenge well.
03/10/2005 06:37:59 AM
i like the view "through a window" in this shot. It works. I also like the tops that compliment each other in there likeness of each other. it is interesting how in the window on the barn is much lighter then outside of the window. Is this how the photo took or was this a play with PS? - 7

Great shot.

Nice work

Very interesting composition. (9)
03/09/2005 11:01:37 AM
Its very nice compozition... but something wrong with sky...spotted in strange colors.
03/09/2005 12:08:57 AM
Is this a copy of one of his?? :) j/k .. Really good imitation.. I love this type of shot. Perfect detail and tonal range. GL
03/08/2005 08:21:19 PM
I love everything about this photo... except for the sky. The green and gray jagginess doesn't fit the rest of the image IMHO. A very nice photo otherwise.
03/08/2005 02:14:18 PM
Wow, I think Ansel himself stood right where you did.
03/08/2005 08:51:58 AM
Great placement of the opening in the forefront - almost like a duplicate of the one in the background. Nice contrast. Really well done!
03/07/2005 10:46:02 PM
Excellent comp!
03/07/2005 10:29:37 PM
Gorgeous composition and wonderful subject matter.
03/07/2005 05:48:32 PM
Zonally, this runs counter to most images in the challenge as light is the key here although you have skillfully included the other end of the spectrum to balance the image. Excellent composition here which sets it apart from much of he competition. Top 5
03/07/2005 05:36:28 PM
LOL! That's just simply not fair! Besides actually being in Yosemity Park this is the best place to take a picture that is Ansel-ish huh? Very nice. The lighting is where it needs to be but I'm noticing some color cast in the sky portion of the photo. You may want to consider recalibrating your monitor (unless you intended it that way but I doubt that).
03/07/2005 02:39:44 PM
Very nice although I cannot help feeling the image is tilted
03/07/2005 12:49:40 PM
Excellent choice and technique for this challenge. Clouds would have given this photo an additional push. The inner door is distracting to me, seems out of place in the adobe world. I like the contrasts of light/dark in this photo.
03/07/2005 11:52:19 AM
Well Framed! Good black and white!
03/07/2005 09:27:34 AM
Looks familiar...
03/07/2005 08:17:22 AM
I love this except the sky looks very pixelated..
03/07/2005 08:04:55 AM
Caughtcha, Ansel :) You go back and rest in peace, now.
03/07/2005 01:31:33 AM
I love the contrast against the back of the church, is this in New Mexico?
03/07/2005 12:05:58 AM
Wonderful reproduction.
