Its not often that I get the opportunity to get a picture like this. I was driving along a country road when I happened upon it. I turned the car around and came to a stop about 30 yards from the subject I took the picture through the window with my EF 75-300mm lens. As soon as I tried to lower the window to get a better look the hawk flew away.
I probably will not score very well on this picture as subjects like this are not well received on DPC. I just felt I wanted to display it none the less.
Cropped, slightly increased contrast, sharpened. The sun was shining directly on the carcass in the early morning and the meat shone bright red. At first I thought to try to desaturate the color a little as it seemed too bright, but decided to leave it alone as it helped to represent the sudden nature of this event.

I don't realy think the hawk killed that deer.

This is a spectacular wildlife composition! The color is good and the bird is beautiful, but the double image blur is a major distraction to me. This obviously isn't the type of shot you can go back and re-shoot. 5

I'm not sure how well this fits the challenge ( a bit gory)..but really it is too good a shot to ignore..someone is bound to want it! Well done on this capture!

Good tight focus - I find the highlights on the background a little distracting and it would have been nice to see him mantling over the carcass. Good luck

hawk and scavage. Background bright fuzzies are distracting

gross, I would have like to see it a bit sharper, it looks like you have camera movement

Really graphic and engaging photo. It looks like you have a bit of motion blur in it, though. 7

I don't like the focus in the weeds/grass.
