I was originally going to reshoot a version of my entry from the 'Breaking New Ground' challenge, but decided to try something new instead. This was my first Dodge/Burn attempt, so I thank Pedro for his excellent tutorial!

Taken in RAW format. Image was split into two layers, one with +1.0eV to correctly expose building. Sky was erased from this layer, then the layers were merged. Adjusted hue, saturation, rotated sligtly, cropped and converted to grayscale. Dodged and burned, then resized, USM, and save for web.

Taken with Nikon 17-70mm f/3.5-4.5 @ 27mm

Im not sure if this is over dodged or not. It is certainly interesting to look at though. So it must be well done to hold your attention for so long. Nice.

Hi Mike

Welcome from the Critique Club
I have been given this image to Critique.
My name is Sally and I live in New Zealand
Given your placing I really cannot fault this image for myself
But looking at the comments you recieved I think mabe the faint white halo line on the right side of the building does show a little
(but that is real picky IMHO!)
This image certainly has Gothic appeal it is well taken, great detail and lighting. Fits the challenge. and obviously D P C voters loved it
It has a good mood feel the sky is great
So Congratulations on your placing and keep up the good work

Great job for your first attempt at dodge and burn. Congrats!

After merging the sky back into the rest of the image you might have wanted to clone out the haloing around the edge building in places. You may have left that there intentionally, but to my eye it looks like incomplete post processing.

The halo on right a bit unpleasant but overall a very strong comp with great tones. Bumping up.

This is my second go-around =) - Very beautiful photograph! I really like it! The right side of the mausoleum looks like the sky was dodged in a very thin line... I think it would have been better without that. But overall I think you did an excellent job!

Very nice gothic glow happening here. Give the mausoleum and really ancient, creepy feel. Like from a dracula movie

A little heavy on the burn in spots, IMO. Overall, very well done in composition and perspective.

I am making two passes on this Challenge. I will vote on your photo then return later(before voting is over) to comment on what I like and dislike about your shot. You can take the comments however you wish and I will try not to be mean. Just don't take it the wrong way.

Nice Desaturation. I would like it better if I could see all the steps. I don't like how they are cut off.

Wonderful sharp picture, love the sky.
Maybe the dodging on the building is just a little overdone but that is just a nitpick.
Good luck.

Th epost processing has given this an almost "other worldly" feel which really adds to the shot. Brilliant work.
