Challenge: Abandoned Buildings (Basic Editing III)
Collection: Nature
Camera: Casio Exilim Pro EX-P600
Location: In the Woods, near my house
Date: Apr 9, 2005
Galleries: Nature
Date Uploaded: Apr 10, 2005

I had to go out for a run for Track practice (at home on a Saturday). I didn't really feel like running, but I had my "Running Cam" (my small Casio one) and decided to walk for a bit. In the forest behind my house there is an abandoned shack that I realized would fit the challenge right after I walked by it. I shot a few angles and continued walking. I still didn't feel like running, so I walked into the forest across the road and strolled through it. As I was doing this, I remembered back to exploring it a few year ago with a few friends. We had found this spooky building, were freaked out by it, and ran away. Now I just needed to relocate it. I remembered it was up the creek and on a hill and found it pretty soon. I shot many different angles, to get to one angle I stepped over a large trunk and scraped my leg..."bleed for photography =)." I used many different ISOs (pretty dark, no direct sunlight), and this was the very last one I took. Then I started my run, satified that I had got a good shot.

Editing: Brightness and Contrast (was a hard balance with the dark foreground and bright background), Color Balance (turned up the reds a bit), size, usm.

It's there and here, but I just don't go photographing in the rain as much as the cloudy/overcast or sunny/not rainy =).

Wow! And haystack rock wasn't even in the picture! Excellent guess!

Actually it was an easy guess. The ferns, the trees, the shingles on the building all say "Oregon" to anyone that has lived here for any length of time. In fact, the only thing missing from this image is rain. Where's the rain Thomas? :)

I must say though, Zoomdak, that I was expecting a closer up shot from the other shots you showed me...pardon me for saying so, but I'd say it wasn't your best work...but, hey, 24th place isn't all that bad now is it?

Sharp, balanced and colors are great. Makes you wonder who once lived here and why? Mary~

it must be me...I seem to be focusing on blown out backgrounds on much of the submissions. I love the foreground, though. This could be a winner with a little light experimantation...maybe even a different time of day.

I think the color saturation distracts from the composition.

This is a good photo. The building gets a little lost in the woods though.

The foreground vegitation is beautiful but distracting. It's almost hard to tell if the plants are growing off of the roof of the shack or growing out from behind it. All in all, a nice shot, though.

This is a nice image. I like how bright the color is in this image. I also like how the subject isn't completely center in this photograph. Nice work.

This is sweet & rich. A little too garish on the foreground greens for my taste, but an effective composition. I'm guessing Oregon?
