Shot during a Falconry display, I was standing around 12 feet away, using my 75-300mm zoom at 75mm. Not great light, but ISO 800 handled it well.

Retouched out the ugly tethers that were hanging down.

I adore Harris Hawks (Parabuteo Unicinctus) and have trained at least 4 of them, each with their own unique characteristics. I might add that i have trained them for educational purposes at bird of prey centres. And although they are captive each one flew free and hunted successfully.

They truly are unbelievable and with each bird i truly had massive respect for.

Great photo, however when the sun hits the colours on the wings it really makes them glow and would imo make for an outstanding picture, as yet i have not seen one but would be impressed if i do.

This bird is a under a year old as it displays an immature plumage, when a year old and they moult they turn a real dark colour with magnificent 3 tone chestnut colouration within the wings.

Thanks for these comments - and thanks Fred, but I never tire of positive words!! Actually, this camera's strong point is the ability to shoot well in low light without too much noise. Sometimes NeatImage is required but I see it as an ally and don't need to lean on it too much.

Jb - the 20D is really clean at ISO 800!

VEry nice. Either the 20D is really clean or you did well processing out the noise at 800 ISO.

Love the way how the legs are like an almost robotic extension to the Hawk. Great timing. Majestic.
