Challenge: Free Study VIII (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S3000
Location: Carragill Farm, Orkney, Scotland
Date: Apr 5, 2005
Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/2
Galleries: Interior, Vintage
Date Uploaded: Apr 18, 2005

Picture inside reconstruction of late 19th C. farmhouse. Included working peat fire which filled the rooms with smoke allowing the beams of light from the windows to become visible.

Minimal editing except for rotation/crop, curves, hue/sat,sharpening etc.

P.S. This was not taken at 10:50 p.m. but rather a.m. (I had not reset the am/pm correctly after a lengthy power loss...I only noticed this when shooting for the 'Tacks' challenge forcing me to reshoot the whole thing).

This is what photography is all about, the lighting, and you nailed it down perfectly. VERY well done.

Wow! I love the depth you have captured in this image. I think the only thing I would wish for was a little darker foreground, maybe even crop out alot of it to just leave the darker frame.

Wonderful scene - very well spotted. Shame about the distortion so I'd have addressed this in PP, but this is a beautiful exposure.

Sunlight coming in through a window always fascinates me bad thing it also shows how dusty everything is ;) love the colors and contrast in this image..good job..

The texture and the colour made this. The chair in my opinion gives even more to the picture. Great all round. I also like the two doorways as it helps the eye flow through the photo. 10

Like the effect of the rays of sun. Composition doesn't grab me.... could you have shown more of the wall in the foreground? (would it have added anything?)

I love the light coming through the windows gives the room a great feel. The texture of the wall is nice also, I might just have burned the lower left side forground a bit more. 8

This is so lovely. The light and the setting .... everything works together for a perfect 10.

Reminds me of something this - not sure what. Something of the Frederick Evans about it, perhaps. The feel is gloriously suited to the mood and scene, though I might personally have tried to select and calm down some of the light a touch - it just goes a bit far for me on this monitor (but then the variety of viewing options is something we have to take into account). There could be debates about keeping the white wall image left, and about the height of your point of view - choices, I suppose, but not sure I could say anything else would be better.

This is great! If it doesn't do well, I am guessing it is because of voter burnout on the abandoned buildings. I love the light and the framing & comp.Great work!

Gorgeous light, shame you didn't have a wider lens to catch the bottom of the doorway. Not sure about taking it at eye-level though which seems a bit unimaginative.
