This challenge was first very appealing for its difference and difficulty level. Unfortunatly, i do not own any jewelry, nor does my GirlFriend, nor do my friends (odd eh?). So i had to return to the men's jewelry Classic - The Watch. At first i was a little scared of the results since i'm pretty sure there are gonna be lots of watchs in the Challenge, but then, i didn't have a really big choice. So i borrewed this beautiful 25-jewel Swiss-Made Aviator Classic watch. The first model of this series ages back from WWII and my friend's item is in perfect order. Barelly a scratch, so i jumped on the occasion to do something with it. At first i wanted a more WWII setting with some wood, a map, pen and aviator Hat, but most items we hard to come by, so i opted for a more close look, and put rocks underneath, which gave it a more meanstream Advertisement add look.

Shot with 4 100watts bulbs (that's the best lighting i can come up with in these rainy days) and went on shooting.

Lots of work in this member challenge as well. Lots of Colour, Level and HUE adjustments. Some sharpness and lots of little buggy spotedits (Damn CatHairs unnoticable from the naked eye!!). Did a very close crop (damnit, no Macro lens) and added a very slim Frame with light Watch Grey colour, added the Text as a final touch. Giving the 'add' a little classiness i find.

I hope this work does well, its i believe, my best so far. I've learned a lot making this and can't wait to get to work once more! Oh Yeah!

Cheers and thanks for voting!

Not really sure what I can add that hasn't already been said in the 48 comments here and the comments you received in the thread, but I'll tell you what I think anyway.
Very nice crisp focus. Love the details and textures in both the watch and the rocks.
Lighting is great. Only 'flaw' I see is that there are a couple blue reflections in the rocks, one that especially stands out in the lower right hand corner. Once you see it, it draws my attention easily.
This works really good for an ad, although I'm not sure why it's sitting in watery rocks. Kind of like that male sexual enhancement product you see in comercials that is sitting in the middle of a river. What the heck? Anyway, not sure why this works, but it does. Unlike the product in the river.
Love the color. The red rocks really work as a background for this. Not too much color, but just enough to add interest.
The lower watch band stands out a bit cause of the DOF, but it does not have an impact on the photo as a whole.
A very well done shot that deserves the high placing. Congrats.

Very well done. Minor nit: the lower band might look better if it were as dark & shiny as the band above the watch face. 9

I like the placement of this watch on the wet river rocks, the watch stands out nicely and the use of the wet rocks give it character and strength.

WOW, love it!!!! Only thing I'd do differently is the leading band comes away at too sharp of an angle. Even with the I'm giving it a 10!!

Very nice. I like the rocks and water, and it's a good clear picture of the watch face.

great shot, good detail and exposure. the copy and font just get in the way of this. perhaps simplifying the copy to a portion and using a smaller font somewhere in the body of the image might have been a way to go though the crop would have needed to be less tight for that to work. Like the image very much.

Oh very nice! I like the masculine feel to it. I bet this would sell to any guy out there. Great lighting and focus! 10

is the text at the bottom all in the same font size? it looks very strange and chunky. 6 - would have been 7 but the text is really throwing me off.

Pixelation problems on the watch numbers and hands. Maybe it's just my monitor. Great natural layout setting and colors.

Awesome - great colors, contrast and composition. Light is a tad too bright....gj

Very nice composition, color, and choice of setting for the watch. The glistening drops and smooth edges do a good job of complimenting the glossy reticulation in the watch.band. There's great contrast and sharpness throughout the image, and because of the way you've arranged the reddish stones, you still draw attention in to the watch, even though there is rich interest in the stones. Watch face just a tad oversharpened/jaggy but overall this is a very enticing image with nice rich colours and attractive lighting...well done.

Your composition and background are excellent. Overall look is very professional. However, this photograph could never pass as a watche ad because the position of the hour hand blocks the watche maker name. Having set a ten to two time position, this shot would have been a 9 or 10 from me. Because of this, I can't give ore than 7.

Personally,I think you have produced the perfect backdrop for the watch.
The colour tones and textures of the background are interesting in themselves but do not overpower the subject.
Would have worked just as well for me without text.
Nicely done.

While dead on clarity is absent in the face of the product, this image stands out as a unique entry because of the cool composition and the placement of the watch. Bumping up, up on good work.

i think the border + text design aspect really take away from the overall image. the photo is beautiful... the design i think is not so strong.

Wow! That watch face just jumps right out at you. Great use of the rocks and water...is this Lara? Lighting is great, focus is out of this world. Only negative I have, and it's hard to avoid, is I'm seeing some jaggies in the watch numbers, date border and watch hands. Nitpicky, I know. Hope you ribbon with this. Good luck.

I like the composition, the focus/eqousure is spot on. I would suggest having the time set so a s not to block the text.

Though this is a bit busy I really like it. To me it makes the watch seem like some kind of animal, maybe a snake, in a natural setting. I find this gives the watch a macho image and makes it appealing to me for "the man in my life".

Very well done. The reddish rocks add the needed contrast that lets the watch stand out and the photo is incredibly crisp and in focus. I get the impression of a durable watch that is very good looking too. If I were buying the ad I'd request that the text be enlarged a bit, maybe 50% bigger maybe double. Perhaps a different color font. the photo is perfect. Nice, nice job.

Nicely laid out and composed shot.
Background works well here and the placement and font style used work well here.
The rocks & drops say outdoor & rugged. Lighting was great and no reflections on the watch crystal.
Nicely done!

Fantastic. Love the lighting here. Very sharp, clean, and detailed. I think you did an admirable job in controlling the reflections. I would suggest resetting the hands to the classic 10/2/8 positions as you have already stopped them with the crown pulled. 8

Not sure how the rocks sell the watch, however verry good picture. Perhaps a photo with a aircraft? Perhaps the plane crashed and it is still running while under the water. I like the photo.

Lovely AD. And what beautiful stones you found to compliment the watch.

This image makes me feel like going to the Alps, for some springtime hiking in the river valleys with my swiss knife :p .. And the ad is telling me that I need a robust watch like this to compliment my gear... Very Nice :)

Love the overall design and the colors of the rocks. Makes it much more classic for a mans watch. I gave it an 8.
