This gent is a local guy that I see about once a week in my neighborhood. He's pretty much homeless but always manages some good cheer and occasionaly sleeps right under the stairs where I got this shot.

He always says hello and even a few times shouted "hey...take ma picture" and just my luck when the people challenge came around I couldn't find him anywhere. The second, the minimalism challenge was announced this exact image came to mind and sure enough there he was.

I was really excited to get him right in his element. The worn stairs and his weathered features were a match made in heaven.

I was one of the two who gave this a ten. I didn't realize until now that I read the comments that maybe it wasn't exactly a "minimal" study, but I was (and still am) so taken by the beauty of this shot that I suppose I forgot to think of this challenge's theme. All the same, I would give it the same vote again. The colors, composition, and the idea that in some people's minds, this cool guy might be considered "minimal" <-- but I hope not. Glad you entered this and I wish it had scored higher.

A strong entry for the people challenge, but not particularly minimalistic

Nice image but subject takes up too much space for the challenge.

Great textures, both human and stair.

While this is a cool portrait, I dont feel that it fitss the topic very well as he is taking up half of the frame.

Great Portrait though! Good tones, good lighting.

I really like the photo. I wish it was submitted in a different challenge. I am afraid it will get marked down because it does not meet the theme of "minimalism" as well as others.

An excellent shot overall, but I'm not sure it's a great representation of the challenge.

I like the reoluttion in this: the weathering of the steps fixes the evident determination of life of this guy - the no compromise life. I hope he's a happy guy: he looks like he's OK with it, huh?

Oh yeah, minimalism. I don't know - who cares?

This is a wonderful picture; but not for this challenge. I would really like to give it a higher score.

Well two things really about this shot that made me score a 4 and I felt you were entitled to as why I gave it a low score. First off, the focus is more on the stairs behind him than on him, he looks slightly in front of the focus point in the image. Secondly, in my opinion this is off topic, both as the subject isn´t 10-15% of the frame as it was stated and also there is nothing that I percieve as "minimalism" in the shot. Anyway, don´t get me wrong, I like the shot and had it been in focus and in a "street photography" challenge or something like that I would have scored it probably double what I gave it here or an 8 and I don´t give yout many of those.

This is interesting..the texture of the steps just enhances the portrait, and it is an effective portrait.

There are some really great textures here. I think the focus on his face is a little soft.

great subject and wonderful image! but for the challenge i think the subject fills up too much of the area. It looks like he wants to talk to someone next to him almost.... :)

A very "telling" picture. The subject might be too large for this challenge to get many big votes, but it is a great photo. If the challenge were "Candid" I would give a definite 10, but in this one 6.

A good photograph but doesn't meet the challenge IMO.

i really like the simple yet complex nature of this photograph....maybe your subject should have been a bit more minimal

Great shot. What a wonderful subject and composition. As far as the challenge goes, I'd think the subject should take up a little less of the frame, but still an awesome photo none-the-less.

I see this more as a good candid street shot rather than something to do with minimalism.

Though you have a very nice and powerful portrait, i don't think it fits the challenge. Otherwise, excellent colors, contrast and compostiion.

He takes up almost half of the frame, not really minimalism to me. Very good picture though. I bet this does well. This would be a 10 in the right challenge.

Wiilly Nelson incarnate! Nice composition, good shot, though I don't personally think it fits the challenge criteria. In a candids challenge, I'd rate it much higher.
