Artste-

Well Im a big fan of your portraiture as well. Most of my pics were just accidental. I have never sat down and planned out a photoshoot, although I should!

I must say I portraits are my favorite to photograph and view.

Even though she hates having her picture taken now ... she'll hold dear you and the times she spends with you! This photo of Bree and the one with the umbrella on teh chair are my favorites of her :)

Thanks for all the comments everyone! Some thoughts:

The blue band was either hit or miss, but I'll say why I kept it in: For the Complementary color effect. The hint of blue of the clothing she is wearing, I felt, needed a companion piece. The color blue is a complementary color to orange, and the orange lighting in her hair and skin-tones (she's a darker skinned girl by ethnicity), was perfect for this.

Kirbic, thank you for the suggestion of burning the blue band some. I think that would probably have helped quite a bit, given it a bit of a richer feel. That didn't even occur to me.

As for the expression, I believe this is both a bit of a "language" disagreement (for those that disagreed that it was a good title), and a problem of being a little *too* subtle (which I was going for). While the general meaning I was going for was "apprehensive", now that I think about it, I've always used the word "pensive" to apply to this meaning as well, a long with most of the people I grew up around. Obviously, others feel the same way as well, but not everyone does. Lesson learned. She really isn't trying to smile here, but was worried because I was trying to get her to have a more "natural" expression, and was busy trying to get ready for gymnastics. I shot off a burst, and when I saw this look, I knew it was what I had to use. Later on, I got her smiling as well, and that shot is in my portfolio.

I'm really happy to place Top 10 with this, but I believe I can do much, much better portrait work, and one day, I hope a challenge comes along where I can submit something truly great.

I really like the composition of this image. The wisp of hair that's touching her right cheek is fine, but the hair covering her eye is a bit distracting. The bright blue collar of her shirt that's peeking into the frame leads my eyes out of the image. I like the amount of space below her chin, so burning out the collar would probably be better than a tighter crop. It may just be a trick of the light, but it looks like she's chewing on her bottom lip. The faint smile and speckled catchlight are great. You did a good job of using the available natural light. The illumination on the dark side of her face is just right (or so it seem on my non-color/brightness calibrated monitor). Did you have to use a reflector, or was this all done with light directly from the window?

I really leke the lighting... the warm tones and the side light create an interesting mood. I might have cropped tighter, eliminating the brighter banc at right, or burned it a bit.

This is a great portrait - beautiful face - but the light column on the right is quite distracting and keeps drawing the eye away from the subject. Perhaps a bit of judicious cropping or just darkening it . Bumped up to 10

Outstanding shot. Tack-sharp where it needs to be, soft where it should be as well. Gorgeous color, stunning model, and excellent depiction of an all-too-often mislabeled emotion. Well done! :o)
