I took this at the Texas Wildlife Ranch near my house. It's a great place to take wildllife pictures because all the animals roam around free. You don't get the sense that they feel the least bit captive. I just loved the personality of this guy. But I am such an animal freak. I wished I could have taken them all home with me :)

This is sweet. Did you know that they have no teeth. They will take your fingers in their mouth if you hold your hand out flat to them. They do not bite hard at all. They are very curious, and will taste and feel things with their beak and tongue. There used to be an ostrich farm nearby, and this is how I found out about that. They love alfalfa to eat. It's the big legs and feet that are so dangerous. They can also run forever, like over 50 miles non stop, which is, I guess, why they don't need wings. Amazing creatures, with big brown eyes and long cute lashes.
The tame ones will stick their beak right on your lens if you hold your camera up to them. It makes a killer fisheye shot.

Makes one wonder who really is in charge. Greta contrast while maintaining detail. The feathers on it's back are so clear. Great work.10

the image seems a little strange to me, particularly due to focus reasons. the back is sharp, but the neck isn't. The head, which is perhaps the same distance more or less from the camera as the neck seems to be hyper sharpened, with tufts of hair both blurred and boosted. In terms of composition, the right bottom corner where the frame of the window cuts in, I feel that this element is a distraction. It's a very nice idea for the challenge, and I'd have rated higher but for the aforementioned focus perceptions I had. 5

Love the picture and the expression on the ostrich's face! Some would say that it isn't composed correctly, but how could you possibly pose this shot! 8
