For those that are interested, The M&M's are actually being dropped off of a cutting board. I was attempting to capture a chocholate rainbow when my cat thought it would be fun to play with the m&m's. He was sitting in the background waiting to pounce on the falling m&m's. I liked the photograph so much I decided to enter it rather than a rainbow of following m&ms.

Hi, I was just browsing through candy and spotted your photo - It made me laugh! My cats would have run away - yours is a real tiger! I like how the photo turned out such an even distribution of m&ms, colorful and clear with their shadows following them. Wouldn't we all like to get caught in such a shower? Even without the cat it is a fun, well executed pict, but the cat is the icing on the cake!

Andrew, thanks for adding the description. I guess I just assumed that a cat would freak out or something (mine would) ...

A Comment From The Critique Club

Hi Andrew,

what a colorful and clever idea. You didn't put any comments, but I'm assuming that you have the smarties on a glass table or similar and your cat is sitting underneath.

I wish I could take any kind of photos with one of my cats in it . . . they just never sit still when I want them to ;)

I really like how your kitty seems to be looking right at the smarties, I also like that the smarties are cropped around the edges so they seem to be going on forever. The yellow ones look a bit bright, almost blown out, but the other ones are fine, and I think this is a tough one because you have the really light colored and really dark colord in your photo, giving quite some contrast. Maybe taking the brown ones out (since they seem to be melting in the background more and don't have as much of an impact on a black background) and then adjusting your exposure a bit ... this might also make the blackground even darker.

I would also like to see a bit more of the cat, but see my previous comments about cat photography ...

Congrats on a very creative and good photo with a great title to match, I'm looking forward to seeing more from you in the upcoming challenges :)

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this review.

Franziska.

Really fun photo. I appreciate how you put the candies front and center and not the cat. The cat's eyes and expression are where they belong.

This is a very cool shot! The cat is perfect!! The falling M&Ms would be very hard to pull off...you stopped their motion very well. The yellow pieces seem a bit too bright (almost glaring). The lower background seems a bit grainy, too. For the most part I really love this shot and want to score it really highly. I started this as an 8, I still think that's the correct score. 8 Rob the Swash

The cat looks totally bewildered! Great capture! The yellow ones are a bit bright, though, to me.

the idea is great..nice capture of falling m&m's..I like the dark background but would have shown the complete right side of the cat's face. (6)

A good shot, even without the cat, but the inclusion makes me love this photo. Definitely one of the best candy shots! Congrats.

I can't really tell how you did this? Many takes? Did the cat meander into the shot or did you glue him/her to the floor? Interesting effect.... well done!

Very creative. Now how in the world did you get the candy to fall and have the cat stay with it? Excellent photograph!!!
