serendipity. what a happy coincidence. yes, i was trying to capture an image of me dancing with my dog Krukker, but i had no idea that this is what i got!

i have been crying since the moment i saw it. i hope ya'll like it, but if not, so what...this is one of the most hillarious shots i have ever seen, let alone taken.

and talk about luck: i was hoping to find something that would give me the same results as some of my other silhouette efforts, and thought i had found it with these guys [insert image here]. unfortunately, they weren't catching anything, and they decided to bail out just before the sun started setting. that just left me and my dog kruk.

we were out on a jetty at oregon inlet on the south side of the Herbert Bonner bridge. there wasn't enough room for either the 75-300 or the 50, so i went with my 28-80. i put the camera on my trusty 6.5" tabletop tripod and set it up on a rock, turned on the auto-timer, and took about 12 shots. it took a bit of back and forth to figure out just how much time i would have to get into place and get kruk into place, but, finally, we nailed it.

the post-processing was very simple. rotated, cropped, minor adjustments for shadow/highlights, levels, hue/saturization, sized, and a little usm.

at the very least, i am hoping to set a new PB for comments. and i really do hope to give more than a few people a grin ;-)

Even if you take the title away you have an awesome shot of man and his best friend at the end of a long day, still happy with each other. The color is fantastic. Good catch!

It's just the funniest shot and a great silhouette too!! :-)
Sorry for missing this one during voting cause I am sure I would be voting at least an 8 on this one!!

I know others have probably already mentioned this, but the sun is right where his (or maybe he is a she) thingy should be. Kinda funny. Focus seems off on the man and dog.

Although I like the sun in the shot it seems to be in a commical place. great image

hehe, comic, point for that. Othervise I dont find the image very interesting. Lacks more clear coloris and there seems to be some strange halo around the figures. Maybe "wrong" usage of USM.

If you hadn't mentioned the "balls of fire" in the title, I never would have noticed ;)

The composition is nothing but perfect. I could just imagine the full smile of the man. I rarely run across a photo where the feelings of the subjects are so strongly conveyed through composition. Going in my favs.

there has been a debate going on for days in the forums about whether or not titles help a photos score...i never read them as a rule...i happened to check your title after noticing the hysterical placment of the sun(as if you had control of that) and fell off my chair...great job great shot great title..."10"

This shot disturbs me intensely. Does it mean that the dog has romantic intentions with the guy? They're both smiling and holding hands. What sort of folk do we have here at DPC? 7

Nice capture, very pretty sunset.

Oh, but after looking at it for a minute, what a weird sight! I noticed that the dog has a glowing light bulb for his wang!

Now that's all I can think about for this image.... wait, is that what the title is about?! lol! Tell me this shot wasn't set up. :)

pretty image - wish sun was more centred, rather than leaving dog "golden balled". haloing from sharpening visible.

Great capture! A more subdued sun by having the dog block it would decrease the glare. Although the background is very good, there seems to be issues around the bridge. 8

Thanks for the giggle! Did you actually PLAN it this way, or were you just clever enough later on to use the title to make the unfortunate placement of the sun seem like a good thing? Great silhouette, lovely colour.... very nice!
