Such a good shot - the more you look at it the more there is to see.

Your affection for Africa shows through in so many of your shots.

I thought the dust was fire at first! Lovely sihlouette, like the action of the baby running with his tail flying out behind him. So swweet! you just want to hug him! : - )

Incredible capture! These type of wildlife shots always amaze me. The closest I have ever gotten to an elephant was in a zoo. I love how the lighting created the glow around him. The dust trail almost looks like lava...lol The tones are just right. Excellent stuff.

Congrats. Great shot!

The grass fire is not a phenomenon stateside. You see the world differently once you've spent a couple hours beating the flames out at its periphery to save the compound - something I did once or twice as a child. This really captures the sense of threat posed by natural forces on our lives. Isolation from which somehow makes the world seem a little less real, a little less interesting, a little less alive. Thanks.

Powerful shot. Technically not that hot, but graphically it's total dynamite. The border seems too heavy to me, however.

05/19/2005 10:16:22 PM
Very, Very cool. Love the way the sun lights up the dust and highlights the top of the elephant. It looks like the top of a volcano. I would like to see a version with a tighter crop on the animal. You would loose some of the dust cloud, but the animal silhouette is so strong, I think it would look great. Perfect border.

An extraordinary photograph - as you must have know in the moment you pressed the shutter release. It has the strengths of great wildlife photography along with the strength of the apocalyptic scene you've found. In the last moments of the earth, the great beasts will walk again. Marvellous stuff.

Stunning though contrast seems a touch high and compression hasn't done any favours to that lovely halo of light around his body. BEAUTIFUL capture - can't wait to learn more about where and how this was taken!

Based on what I have seen so far, this should be in the top 10. Wonderful capture and colours from the sun. Some may give the standard response of "would have preferred the elephant on the left of the image... blah, blah, blah...", but seeing the little ones dust trail is perfect. Could have done without the border as it doesn't add anything. Still one of my favs so far. Good Luck.

While not the most crisp of the silhouettes, this is definately one of the most interesting ones. I just cant get enough of the fiery cloud of dust that trails the highspeed elephant. Absolutaly wonderfull job!

Perhaps I am being unfair, but this views to me as having been overprocessed due to the halo arond the elephant and the blown out yellows. The subject itself is stunning and the background colors are dramatic. After review, I am bumping it up however. 5

Wow! Impressive. Really stunning shot. I really dislike the border though, the edge between the image and border is discernable only for about half of the perimeter, which looks weird.

Love it!

If this doesn't ribbon I'll be so surprised. I love that this is more than just a silhouette - the backlighting is supurb. It almost looks like molten lava kicking up from behind. Wonderful action shot. I hope you decide to sell it to an agency or somethign when the contest is over. 10
