My wife loves licorice, and my family loves licorice. But I only tolerate it. Our friends, however, whom you see here, love it! Good thing too--they had to taste it for almost an hour!

Thanks again everyone!

You can see a tutorial on the desaturation technique I used by going to the "How'd They Do That?" section of this website for the photo "Rest:"

//www.dpchallenge.com/how.php?HOW_ID=16

In this tutorial, he describes how he got rid of one color. I just did with ALL but one color.

Desaturation is a fun tool to fiddle around with!

Thanks for answering my question about desaturation, now I can see a wee bit of color in his ear. I think I will play around with this idea now that I know about it. Congrats on your first place win, well deserved.

Wow! Thanks everyone. I think your suggestions below are specific and a good idea. Now that I can spot-edit, I can get rid of those traces of red that appear here and there in earlobes and nostril shadows! I never knew we had so much red all over our skins. And of course, I made a nice print for this couple. They were real troopers.

Very much like the lighting. As a portrait this really works, forget the candy. A little less saturation on the plate of candy would be more natural.

This is just the perfect shot for this challenge. By far my favorite. Excellent work. I love the black and white conversion while keeping the red hue saturation. Awesome!!! Good luck with the challenge!

My absolute favorite shot this week, this is adorable. Everything from the composition to the desaturating works beautifully. Great work, and I hope I see it on the home page the entire week!

Great work! I like the use of the color desaturation in this case -- it really highlights the subject. My only 10 for the challenge!

Sweet, romantic idea! Contrast with the background seems a little weak, esp. for the woman. The "pile" of licorice seems over-saturated (less than clear as the rest of the image). 8 Rob the Swash

Nicely composed, catchy color effect (popular technique - becoming old hat?), whites appear a bit burnt (on my monitor).

Cute shot... I feel that it would be just as strong a shot in full color. Still their expressions and pose are very well done.

Cute pic. I like the desaturation of colors aside from red. Nice work

One of my favorites of the challenge. I like the desaturation - but the pile..I'm not sure it looks like licorice or worms or something...not exactly appetizing. The poses and faces are, and the clarity is perfect. Great job. 9+

I really hope to see this picture as the winner this week, absolutely fabulous. If you do make this available as a print, you might want to consider redoing the photoshop work with the selection tool to get rid of any sign of red on the people (their earlobes, and lips show a bit of pink, and his nose) I Just love this shot, well done Two thumbs up!

Very "lady & the tramp"-esque. Great use of selective color. Your lighting and exposure are just right (maybe a little bright on the shirts, but not a big deal). Fun personality conveyed by the subjects. Overall excellent.

Brilliant idea! Too bad the plate is off centered. It creates an unbalance in the photo. The desaturation really works here though! 7
