 A macro shot of a glass ball filled with air bubbles of different sizes (my wife loves to buy useless things like that :)). The glass is tinted by various shades of blue and orange, so the colors are just like they were from the camera, only slightly saturated during RAW conversion. In p/p neat image, sharpened, a little bit of cloning, curves, resized, saved.

The title is borrowed from the excellent book by Stanislaw Lem (1961) and the classic film by Andrei Tarkovsky (1972). Haven't seen the recent Soderbergh remake, so can't attest to it.

update:
Wow, a ribbon!! Thanks everyone for great comments and votes! It was nice to get a second ribbon after a loooong break. The first one felt a bit like a fluke. I mean, I just was lucky to be at the right place (Paris) at the right time. So I am happy to score another ribbon literally in my backyard. At least now I have two flukes :)

Nice job. High technical quality. Picking an outdoor location for the tiny refracted images in the bubbles is a terrific idea. Does not look like camera or photographer got into those images. This image will place very high in voting.

I find myself trying to figure out what is in the background as I look through the bubbles. Clarity and color make the picture interesting. The implied triangle between the 3 larger bubbles makes the composition. I would though clone out some of the smaller bubbles to give more clarity to the image overall. 6
