Nikon D70 w/ 50 f1.8 & extension tubes.
2 Sb-60 flashes at 45 degree angle to the subject.

I put the poor guy in the fridge to slow him down, but I thought I had killed him. A few minutes into the shoot he suddenly moved and startled the s!*t out of me. I almost broke a window behind me. I guess he had the last laugh, so I sent him on his way ;-).

Boy, this is an unusual looking bug (a cicada perhaps?). Nice DOF on parts of the bug, but other parts the lack of DOF is a distraction. Nice lighting, but odd color background (doesn't look natural). All in all, good shot though - nice work. 6

Looks like the colors could be a bit richer in this. The detail is excellent.

Very nice picture...I would like it even better if whole bug is in the focus.

Excellent bug shot! I like all the different textures and use of dof and lighting to enhance the segments of body.

As much as it's yet another bug photo, you can't take away from the fact that it's very well done. Not big on the yellow background but the detail of your subject is great.

Not quite sharp enough in the face area. The point of sharpest focus seems to be the inner tip of the visible wing. It should be the eye. Still, this is a good capture.

8 - Good macro, but is missing something. It needs something to bring it 'to life' more. Perhaps a different background, perhaps more emphasis on the greens/browns/coppers, not sure. My first thought on seeing it was that it is a good 'matt' image, so yes, perhaps less 'shine', more emphasis on the textures, would make it near perfect.

Not a pretty bug! But a great photo. Lots of detail on this insect. Very nice shot.

Don't be sorry. This is a fine fellow. I like that you concentrated on his upper body. As ugly as he is, he is almost architectural in his composition. The lighting skimming over his body is well done. I'd like a bit of sparkle in his eye though.

I've counted over 100 bug photos in this challenge. Although the subject is ugly, this picture shows nice detail. Good job.
