What a treat to see the detailed "fur" on face and neck and legs. Intrigued by the rumpled or muscled irregularities in upper body. Photo has great dynamics.

A great favorite of mine are Dragon flys. This is such a great macro example of a wonderful detailed dragon fly, that I am adding it to my favorites..... I just absolutely love this image.....

Yes, another dragonfly. Of course, I thought there'd be a lot of them in the challenge, but I also take a lot of photos of dragonflies as there are so many of them in Japan. I can't quite identify this one from the pictures in my Japanese dragonfly book, but it's pretty common in my area.
I had actually put this one in as a placeholder - my original idea was to take a macro of some new kitchen sponges I had bought, if only to get away from the bugs.
On Friday, the score was 6.995 or thereabouts, but it steadily declined over the weekend... and especially it dipped in the last few hours.

Beautiful colors and amazing DOF on body. DOF is a little off on far legs, wings, and eyes. Highlight glare on eyes is a little distracting and bright spot in upper left, but otherwise great background. Very nice capture. 7

I love the way the wings are like gossamer as they reach the edge of the image,

Beautiful composition, colors & clarity. I've certainly never noticed these guys hanging on the way you show him. I love the little fur around his eyes & back; up for a waxing, I think! 9

I really love this shot...beautifully focused, composed and the lighting is right on. the object in the lower right is what I would consider a minor distraction and could have been cloned out. That is my only problem with this beautiful image. bumping up

WOW! What a close up! It almost seems hard to believe that you can get that close! Nice sharpness and details on the legs and body. Great 'soft' background although there is a tiny tiny amount of glare near the leaves(?) that distracts just a tad...But truly amazing macro! very well done

This a breathtaking macro! I have seen many dragonfly shots, but never seen all 6 legs clutching an object. Comp, focus, color, detail .... this shot has it all!

The images that always suffer from a lack of comments are the ones that are right in the middle ground. Everyone comments on the awesome shots. Some comment on the bad shots. But the middle ones, very few people say anything. So here I am to explain why I voted a 5:

Looking at the wing and the lower legs you can see that perfect focus on part of the dragonfly was achieved. This is very hard to do and your accomplishment in this regard should be acknowledged!

For me, the critical part of a macro *is* the sharpness in the details. But in this case, I think you missed my only a fraction of an inch. The eyes and the head do not appear to be in focus. And yet the branch in front of the head looks fine. This makes me think the problem wasn't so much the focus (well, it *does* have to do with "where" you focused), but that a smaller aperture, resulting in greater depth of field, would have helped bring all of the essential parts into sharp focus.

I also happen to like the composition on this one. The angled view of the dragonfly as well as the matching angle of its background which opposes the angle of the stick it is holding onto.

So while this is not a bad shot, the lack of focus on the head and eye is what hurts the shot, and that's why I ended up giving it a 5. Hope this helps.

8 - Very good. Not just 'another dragonfly'. I for one have never seen this angle before. That transparency on what part of the wing is in focus is - exquisite. Even the 'blurred transparency' is 'unique'. Same with the 'flutter' of it on the other side. For me, 'if only' the eyes and those 'fore' legs were in 'fine focus', and a touch more on the body, this would be very near perfect for me. I do not know what that is 'up there' in the left background but it detracts, especially from the beauty of those wings. The color in them, well they look just like stained glass windows or vice versa. Great capture.

Based on your title I have a strong guess who you might be...if so, this could be as far as my taste goes another dragonfly, another ribbon... 10 (Mine could have come close if I cropped more:).

Just amazing detail on this insect! It's really cool to see it up close like this. I like the composition of this shot as well, with the wings leading off to the left. Nicely done.

You took a different approach and concentrated on his head and body instead of his wings. Good imagination. Nice detailing. Wow bugs are complex!!!
