I have come looking for this shot for the third time and realized that it was not in my favorites.

And I started thinking... why not?

After having gone through over 100 pages of food pics, I have to say this is likely one of the top 3 best food pics on DPC and absolutely without a doubt the penultimate blueberry shot. It simply cannot get any better.

Whenever someone asks me what a blueberry is like, I think of this shot.

Thanks for a truly great pic.

If I didn't know these were blueberies, I could have sworn they were large
gourds, which is a compliment to the quality and detail here, this close-up.
Well done and congrats on a non-bug/flower top 10!

One of my favorites. Great composition. They actually look like jumbo berries. I'm surprised this didn't get a ribbon. Too bad =(

Awesome shot. I wasnt' able to vote on it, but if I had, this would have been my pick for the blue. I have always loved the coloring of fresh blueberries. The surface you placed them on is excellent as well. The lighting is soft and beautiful. I wonder how much post processing you did. Truly outstanding.

I love the massiveness of the berries. It reminds me of back home...

A big smack in the face to the one guy who rated this a 3.

I knew I should have shot a bug! Oh well, first time breaking a 7 which is great. Thanks to all the people with no cameras that voted me a 5 lol.

I got a lot of "look like pumpkins" comments so my next challenge is to take pumpkins and make them look as small as blueberries.
07/11/2005 12:12:09 AM
Congrats on breaking the special effects/extreme closeup barrier with this mumental study of some tiny berries.

congrats on your 10 top finish. this was one of my challenge favs - a great take on the subject and a refreshing departure from all the bugs (Though I contributed to that...)

well done!

Great texture contrasts on this, nice choice of background for that reason. These blues are huge and look lush and full of juice. Hope you enjoyed them later. Good luck!

this photo is one of my favorites in the challenge. the colors are perfect, the blueberries are tack sharp and the detail on them is quite nice. great DOF as well. the surface they are on is also interesting. im not sure what im seeing on the blueberry to the right, i see like a few black pixels, maybe dust? Score: 10 +favorites

Great work here. My first ten of the challenge. The lighting here is phenomenal as well as the composition and use of creative DOF. A brilliant piece, very well done.

Such a simple subject and common place but this photo really brings out the beauty in such everyday things. Great placement of the blueberries, especially choice of surface for the blueberries to sit on, the texture of that contrasts really complements the blueberries very nicely. High mark from me... PS: one of my favorite fruit ;-)

Those things look like the size of tomatos from this perspective! Nice job, indeed. I love the detail in the skins and the ground. The boarder you added works perfectly. Good luck!

Like this it almost looks like red cabbage. :)
I like the simpleness (as opposed to confused) of the composition and colors. The light is very good here. Bit unsure about the contrast and punch of the colors. Could perhaps do with a bit harder USM. 7

In this photo the blueberries look massive. Whatever they are resting on undoubtedly contributes to the illusion. Nice to see something a little different executed so well.

Blueberries take on such a nice patina don't they? They have this instant "rustic" appeal... and even more so in this image due to the fact that they appear to be resting on an old bit of wood..my only tiny nitpick is the thin white border...I don't mind the black, I actually like a thin black border...but that thin white line is a little distracting...JMO...I'm still lovin' that patina though...beautiful berries...one of my favorite images.

The colours are a bit toned down and neutral, but I like the textures here. Terrific sharpness on this image and there's something about it which is understated that I like.

A 7 from me and good luck

The details on the blueberry are amazing!!! Great colors and nice depth of field. The background where they are resting on though is a bit distracting to me? too grainy or not enough of a contrast? not sure what it is about it.
Very well done!!!
