Surf shots rule the sports category!

:)

Yours is better though. Great shot, and congrats on the ribbon.

Whoa! It must be difficult to take such an "action picture" and get that amazing definition! But, at the same time you captured him still, that photo seems to show water movements. Very high definition; and the main subject in the picture shares the leading role with that sparkling wave, in a very measured way.

Wow. This is pretty close to a perfect shot. I was really surprised that this didn't get an 8+.

There is a bit of something about the starkness of the water droplets I don't like, but I would sooner put that down to JPG compression artifacting than I would the actual picture. I would bet that in the original, the spray is sharp enough to cut your finger on.

It really disappoints me that someone can post a picture that appears to have a little less post processing than others and have people who love the creativity of the shot, but voting it down for things that are so stupid as the choice of shorts on the subject. Like he is really going to wade out there with a pair of bright yellow tighties and tell the guy to change up and improve the bleeding contrast!

There are two types of creativity when shooting. The creativity in setting up a shot, and the creativity in using the camera. This shows creativity in using the camera in spades.

Good on ya!

(PS, I realize this is not the place for commenting on others comments, but I felt it ought to be said)

I love the clear crisp sharpness of this image catching the surfer at the height of the wave in stop action is fantastic.
You have also managed to catch great detail in the face allowing the viewer to see the concentration in the surfer and with the extended right arm and fingers which really highlights the sense of balance required.
Well done on a great "sports action shot".

8 - Good surf shot, good capture of the wave 'cut' and 'spray'. Criticism; more detail, maybe stronger colors, different crop. Given the water 'spray', maybe black and white for this would work, not sure.
