Just came across this nice family shot.
Quite interesting that each one is looking at different directions.
And the lighting is very pleasing... Well done!

Robt,
Wonderful pic with so much hidden feelings. Wish it ended higher. You are just a great man, a very talented person to 'see' these pics. Well done my friend.

Re: the color, it was shot at sunset and that's the naturallight; I left it alone.

Re: the BG blur, this was a snapshot the evening of the challenge, of my neighbors who came to dinner. There's VERY distracting fence etc back there; the blurred fence is that is "haloing" the baby's head. I didn't want to obliterate it for fear of DQ.

Thanx for all the comments!

R.

Glow around the Babies head seems distracting. Otherwise good color and composition

A very touching image with pride and great hope as evidenced in babies eyes. Bumping up.

The composition is very good and the subject is nice. You´ve overdone the background blurring imho. Think you should have used smaller amount of gaussina blurr or simply leave it. The artifacts are obious above the head of the children and the edges around the head of the grownups are not attractive. Also find the skintones of the grownups litle to redish.
Without the background blurring i think this could have been a very good image.

great exposure and focus. i understand what you were going for but the bg looks a bit fake, perhaps due to the tough editing around their heads. if only 1 person where to look at the camera, i would have liked it to be the focal point or in your case, the baby

I may be wrong here, but the jagged edges around the babies head and her head in particular lead me to believe the backround blur was added later but not really important. Just looks "wrong" somehow.

Anyway, the image is very nice, love the lighting and it´s a very fitting shot for this challenge and as a bonus the image quality is very good, you got a 7 from me.

pity he is not looking at woman as she looks at baby. I know it's sunset but colouring looks wrong

the faces of age... the child in awe of the great big world, mom still have a time to smile and grandad, like me, well a little sceptical. Fabulous emotions for me!

They are your family right? Then boss them around and position them better ;) That gap between grandpa and daughter breaks up the shot.

The eyes are all pointed in perfect directions. I really like this composition.

Lovely family portrait. The lighting is soft and really shows detail and skin tones nicely. Well done.

There is a very visible haloing over the baby's head, almost like steam rising.

The composition is very good...nice use of the rule of thirds.

Beautiful family picture. The skin tones appear "off" though. Too much reddness. They kind of look sunburned. This happens to me in my pictures when there is not enough light. One way to deal with this is to desaturate the red channel a little.

Gretchen's eyes are focused on the bay - which in some cases gives a special feeling of the bond between mom and baby - but in this case I do nto get that. Instead I get the feeling that I want her to look up and tell me through her eyes how important this man and baby are to her.

the way that each one is looking in a different direction adds a lot of character to this photo. also the soft light and gentle expressions really create a picture of love.

Good light. Nice natural skin tones. I'd like less space over the baby's head. Maybe if the two adults had their heads touching, or nearly doing so might work better for my taste.

This could have been cropped better. No one is looking in the same direction. Nice focus though. The blurred effect in the background makes the babys head look like its glowing. Wish I could see more of the Grandfather, and it would be nice if the baby was smiling. Fits the theme perfectly!

Seems like levels of red need to be toned down a little.
