Doesn't matter how many times I look at this picture, it still sends a little jab to my heart. One of my favorites from this challenge. Your gallery choices were right on target as well. :-)

In my opinion this was one of the best pictures; because of this elephant's stark and brutal surroundings, the message is unmistakeable. It would do well as the World Wildlife Fund poster...

As careful as I am, I missed this image. That is I placed it on my placeholder of 6 and never returned to it for final evaluation. I am ashame because it is an image with a good message. I ask for forgiveness.

Congratulations on your top 20 finish.

Good to see social commentary being rewarded amidst all the very pretty, anthropomorphic shots. Congrats on top 20!

I was wondering who this was, and now in hindsight, I can see your style in this. My highest scoring image in the challenge personally. Great work.

the inner "frame" around the elephant and the colors really make this stand out. it's an interesting photo. 10.

This is very striking image that portrays Zoo life perfectly. You have used the framing to help draw the viewer into the stark concrete arena that houses this sad but majestic animal.I may have cropped a little tighter but that is just personal taste.

If people are looking for emotion when they voting this should be a clear winner. But this is DPC and probably a happy feel image will win, in my book this is the best and my favorite.

Oh wow! I'm not so sure I like the angle, it's a little misleading. But overall this picture is so artistic and beautiful. I love how the contrast is high and the picture is really sharp looking. Good job on this one and I hope you do well.

I love this photo so much but it seems so overdone and fake. How did you do the framing and such in a real zoo?

Wow! What a stunning image. Beautifully toned, superbly framed, wonderful range of tones and textures. Despite that anthropomorphic smile this is a sad image for me as it emphasises the drab confined life of a zoo elephant compared to a wild one...

You have captured the essence of humans in power.. wonderful photograph.. wonderful title. It saddens me to see images such as this .. a beautiful proud social creature behind bars in what is obviously a drab life.

Interesting use of framing. The elephant looks very flat to me, not sure if a color version would help or not. Else Good technically - 5

I love the optical illusion created by the metal frame - an elephant in a box. It's quite wonderful.

Great use of colour tone and natural frame, very nice. I'll bet the lighting was tough too, not that you'd know from the photo, though. Geat job. If I stare long enough I can see him scratching his bum on the wall.

Fit Challenge Criteria: 2/2
Color/Contrast: 2/2
Composition: 1/2
Photo Quality: 1/2
My Subjective Affinity: 1/2

This photo was exposed perfect, and the elephant, even at a distance, appears so clear. However, the two things that detract from the overall image are the branch (?) hanging down over the rear of the elephant and the extra room on top and bottom of the image, above and below the rails.

VERY emotional shot. It reminds me of some demented scientist's laboratory from the 1930s. Really nice work - I know that for me, whenever people tell me that a photo of mine evoked a strong feeling from them, I feel that I was successful. Good job.

This is so sad! The condition of the cage and the dispair of the animal is truly horrific. You get a 10 for reminding us that not all zoos are wonderful and bright!

Really tugs at the heart strings... only criticism is that it feels a little awkward with the diagonal positioning of the bottom log of the enclosure. Feels like the elephant is going to slide out the side of the photo.

Since I am lacking in technical skills, I cannot give helpful comments. I am strictly a photo buff who is trying to improve, but as to telling you what is wrong or right, I am in no position to say. I am simply voting based on whether I like the picture or not. Sorry, maybe someday I will be able to give helpful advice
