wow - you are a great photgrapher. Do you doesn't use digital post production effects/ corection options? It's no problem to remove little unlike elements with Photoshop CS. So if you doesn't use them, do you realy finde a so good color/uncolor contrast in real? Yes - cool - you have a great talent to find the right location at the right moment and the sun (light) ist with you *g*

OK, congrats on another ribbon, but this is getting ridiculous! A top 10 or ribbon in 6 consecutive challenges...sheesh! Whatever level comes after "Ribbon Hog," you've reached it. Most members don't have a personal best as high as your average! Hope you enjoy another week of total domination. ;-)

Fantastic atmosphere, this photo really is quite special.
I could be wrong, but the texture looks like in-camera sharpening was on 0 or above... as a result the fine detail has become a little too sharp and pixelated. I prefer -2 in-camera sharpening with USM later and a little Blur to avoid that coarse bitty pixelated texture. Personally, I believe it would then have broken 8+.

Wow, this is just amazing. The textures of the ground are so intricate and captivating, and the steam? rising really adds a different dimension, as does the figure in the background. How can I not give this a 10?

Looks like Iceland; landscape by Wagner, plus a few UFO's visible in the heavy sky. Anyway, it's terrific. So much texture it almost looks three-dimensional! I also like the figure exiting the shot; not just for the scale it gives, but it also suggests that this is an uncomfortable place. I'm not sure what you've done with the colour; it doesn't seem to be a simple selective desat ... whatever it is, I think it suits this subject. 8

Very nicely captured... plenty of texture and a great composition...

Too bad this is an open challenge with basic editing since there are so many dust spots in the upper right corner, I am not going to let that affect my vote as I am sure you would have removed them if you could have. I like this shot, the composition is very good and excellent colours/contrast. I do however feel that it is slightly oversharpened, there seems to be a sharpening halo around the person up in the left corner. Great job all around, hope this comes out close to the top.

Ááááfram ísland!

How did you do this shot? It's really cool, giving it a 10... But how'd you do it? Colors levels also adjusted?

My favorite in the challenge so far,
like the use of selective desaturation here, but not the sensor dirt, or what ever the dots are...

07/24/2005 10:27:53 AM
Wow! Excellent use of texture in a context. Looks as if there were a few water spots on the lens but forgivable given the environment. Also good use of selective de-saturation.

Very nice picutre. I love the composition and contrast. Looks like your camera needs cleaning; there's spot showing in the sky region.

07/22/2005 09:35:02 AM
gotta be Iceland. :) I think what makes this image is the inclusion of a person. Doesn't hurt that the tones were excellently rendered, the DOF and Focus dead on and the POV perfect. I can overlook the spots (clean your camera!) as this is a basic challenge. Excellent job! 10- goodluck in the challenge!

07/22/2005 05:49:18 AM
At first glance this was really striking, but I think it would be stronger if you'd cropped the top quarter. The sky and figure dilute the shot for me, and make it look a bit over-processed. The bottom 3/4 of the image is beautiful.

Aside from the nice texture, this is some location! Wow. Very cool. If it were B&W, it would remind me on an Ansel Adams shot

I'm not completely sure about the person in the b/g...
Great, great capture! :)

Part of me would have prefered this photo with out the person, but I think that it may be a matter of opinion in taste not technique or creativity so don't think I should mark the photo down for it. Love the angle for the shot - could lose a little noise in the sky/cloud area.

This is so cool. I love the leading line to the figure and the "melting marshmallow" look of the ground. The light and dark is so interesting and the overall composition is great. 8
