Oh man I can't decide between the color and the black and white ... such a pity ;)

Well, I got home from work and saw the sky -- so I headed out...the sun would peek out, then go back inside, peek out, then go back inside.

PP: I cloned out some dust specks, adjusted curves, and a few other things.

At first I didn't like the tree lingering in the top corner -- I know I'm going to get some comments on that.

Maybe it's overdone, I don't know...personally, I like it...sort of surreal, if you will.

Surreal is the perfect word! This is amazing, a great shot and some great processing. I'm with you on the tree in the top corner... but short of cutting the bad boy down... not much you can do in the challenge rules.

I gave you a 8 on this. I really like the surrealism and think you did a nice job. The only distraction to me is the haloing caused from a bit too much USM . I'm adding this to my favs

I don't think this is overdone at all. The first word that came to mind was surreal and then I read your description and that is what you were after. The only distracting element, IMO, is the bottom part of the gazebo is hidden by the foreground. I would have given this a 9 :)

The color and texture of this photo is unreal (literally and figuratively). I love it--truly a level of photography I aspire to hit someday. 4th place--great job!

I agree, with some who have commented om the gamey feel to it, but compositionally this is fantastic, colour and saturation are great, perspective. Very well done on this David, condolences on not ribboning. Ah well just think - you could've got one off a brown ribbon. Now that's really gotta suck.

of note, I gave this a 7, would have given it an 8 without the gazebo. It just kinda thru my focus off.

Nice shot, would have liked a stronger composition and less video-gameish.... But other than that very well done!

After awhile I had a feeling this might have been yours. That park bench looked awfully familiar (though I guess it's not the same one). Congratulations on 4th! :)

Once you get done collecting your ribbon for this amazing shot, I would love to read about what post processing was done to achiev this result. Great job.

Looks a little over-sharpened at the junction of bench arm and sky. Because it's right in the center, I think it has more of a negative impact than it ordinarily would, breaking the mood a bit. I really like the overall concept, composition and lighting.

cool lighting and point of view. maybe a bit too heavy on the noise reduction?
07/30/2005 05:56:09 AM
Ilike this a lot..very interesting processing which adds. (neatimaged bench?). Composition-wise I wonder if more of a gap between the bench and the bandstand might have been more effective, and also moving the bench slightly to the right in the frame.

too much halo (USM or hightlight/shadow tool) on the bench for my taste. otherwise a very good photo, suggesting the brewing of trouble in a quiet place.

This is simply beautiful! You have managed to balance all of the elements needed to make this into a memorable image. One of my top pick for a ribbon. Good luck!

Nice scene, I like the composition but this shot has too much halo for my taste, in particular around the bench and also it´s a bit dark for my taste but I like everything else about it, 7 from me.

Beautiful moody image. I like the perspective/composition and the rounded/used feel of the bench. The only suggestion is to go easy on the sharpening, there are a lot of halos around the bench.

This is a great image. Nice colors, perfect DOF, fantastic composition. If I had to complain about anything, it would be the appearance of slight oversharpening (halo's around the bench) followed by a bit too much NeatImage. Like I said, "appearance of" - I have no idea if this is really the case. This is my favorite image in this challenge. I hope you do well. 10

One of the criteria for this challenge is "Creativity is the Key" so my scoring will be based on this. this image has an almost painted look. I love the inclusion of the tree branch to balance out the cloud. The tones are rendered well. POV, DOF, composition, focus all done well. A lot of empty sky but I don't think it hurts the image. 8 - good luck in the challenge!

I like the subdued colors. Nice composition and perspective. The clouds are wonderful. It has a leading lines quality that takes your eye to the back of the photo. The gazebo is a nice visual touch. Good one.

I like this . . . only suggestion I might make is to allow more space between the bench and the gazebo. They almost look to be merging. Great colors and framing.

I like it. You will probably be hammered for excess post processing but I think it's great. The sky is beautiful. The halo around the bench does detract (from oversharpening), but overall it's good. Good luck.
